The Pleasant Revolution, a project of the Ginger Ninjas, demonstrates that bands can tour independently, without automobiles, by carrying our own equipment and putting on amazing musical shows anywhere, with pedal power. Our tours promote the bicycle as a viable, healthy, cool, and joyous part of a greener lifestyle.
On tour, we organize Bicycle Music Festivals (BMFs) in each city, featuring: a 1200 watt pedal-powered PA system, as many as 15 bands, up to 7 festival stops, outrageous Critical Mass-style bicycle party caravans between festival stops, and zero use of cars or trucks.
With its completely bike-haulable stage, the event is packed up and deployed numerous times: staged sequentially at different public parks and also—we're planning—on a moving “Live On Bike” stage which rolls down city streets.
Creating a Live on Bike System
Until now, our between-venues-rides have featured recorded music. For our upcoming 6-month Europe tour, we're planning to up the ante by building a special bicycle and system that enables a musician to play while rolling (as a passenger), while also transmitting the signal so that anyone with a radio can pick it up and amplify it for city-engulfing surround sound—live! Imagine a block full of cars with their windows down and their radios rocking the same station. Now imagine that the station is actually a live performer on the street. Now imagine that the cars are bikes and the musician is sitting on the back of one, rocking.
Live on Bike will add significantly to the public awareness and interactivity of the bicycle music festival and exemplifies our message that clean energy and transportation is not only possible, it's way more fun.
The Pleasant Revolution's main goal is spreading environmental awareness and building cross cultural bridges while creating new, diverse, and exciting musical experiences. The BMF offers a unique and inspirational learning format, focusing on key issues of sustainable transportation, renewable energy and community arts development. Our members frequently deliver musical skills workshops, presentations, lessons and advice on all aspects of touring freedom, from constructing bicycle generators to organizing tours.
Having completed international tours in North and Central America, including California, Canada, the Eastern U.S., Guatemala and Mexico, cycling nearly 10,000 miles and creating over 150 events, the Pleasant Revolution's energy and determination is matched by our humility, righteous music, and quest to make a difference.
The 2010 European tour will span June to October with five bands (whose music is offered as backer rewards) and will pass through major cities and teensy towns in Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Holland, Belgium, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal.
The Pleasant Revolution is a project of International Bicycle Fund, a 501c3 non-profit, and all donations are tax-deductible if you opt to not choose a premium.

If you are interested in supporting ecologically and socially responsible events that empower local communities; if you are interested in supporting something that will appeal and inspire music lovers, students, environmentalists, and bicyclists alike; something that will inspire others to create their own bike/music projects days or years after we've come and gone; then we hope you will consider backing the Pleasant Revolution's "Live On Bike."
Your support is like the wind under our wheels. Thank you.
