Celebrate Brian Kibler’s Birthday with SolForge and Backer Tournament News!

Hey all – Brian Kibler here! Now, don’t tell everyone else about this, but I’ve secretly taken over the SolForge Kickstarter page to throw myself a birthday party! I turn 32 this Friday, September 7th, and I wanted you all to be able to celebrate with me! I don’t want any presents this year, though. All I want is to be able to make SolForge the best it can be, so I’ve added two new birthday reward tiers just for the occasion!

Since I’ll be turning 32, everyone who contributes at least $32 by the end of our Kickstarter campaign will get a special birthday celebration avatar! And as most of you probably know, I’m a pretty hardcore gamer, so I’m going to throw in a coupon for a free SolForge draft when they go live! Keep in mind that this tier is included in everything above, so if you’ve already chosen a higher reward level, you’ll get the birthday avatar and free draft coupon too!

If you’re looking for some serious celebrating, we’re adding a new tier to coincide with the year I was born. Anyone who contributes at least $1980 will get free SolForge drafts for life! Yes, you heard that right! Your first draft every day will be on us – for the rest of your LIFE! You'll also get every reward from the tiers below, as well, including your art on a card, one of every SolForge card from Set 1, and more! That’s the kind of birthday party that lasts longer than popping bottles in some Vegas club!

A lot of you have had questions about the special tournament we’re holding for backers, and I have answers for you! The backer tournament is going to be a special “God-mode” event in which players can use any cards they want to build their decks, even if they’re not in their personal collection! The tournament will be a great opportunity to try out strategies and get a taste of all of the exciting cards in SolForge – and we’ll have a bunch of special prizes for the event you won’t be able to get anywhere else!

Don’t forget! We’re doing a live streaming SolForge Q&A on Friday, September 7th at 1PM-3PM PST (4-6 PM EST). It’ll be hosted on my Twitch channel (, so be sure to come by with all of the questions you might have about SolForge. And, of course, to wish me a happy birthday!

Now I leave you with some more card and art previews! Thanks for helping make my birthday wish of creating SolForge come true!

It would be interesting to see some cards we didn't see in the full game demo, but I guess if GG doesn't have them implemented yet, that's all we get.

First of all happy birthday mr brian. i have 2 questions for the team.
      1) How many packs does a player open in a draft tournament ?
      2) How many players can partecipate ?

    13. Oregon Pinkrose on September 7, 2012

Now I need to know if a draft is going to cost more or less than $7.

    14. Oregon Pinkrose on September 7, 2012

Thank you both for being helpful.

Oregon: On Magic Online, there are eight-man draft queues that fire on demand. SolForge is almost certainly going to use a similar structure, just apparently with entry coupons so you don't have to bring your own boosters into a draft or anything, which sounds great to me. I like opening boosters, not so much saving them for drafts or selling them to bots.

    16. Garner Perigo on September 6, 2012

@ oregon: so the way I think it will work is that 24/7 people will be able to enter a draft, as soon as enough people have signed up the draft will happen. So the $32 will let you do one draft for free and the $1980 will make the first draft you sign up for everyday free.

    17. Andy Cormack on September 6, 2012

Happy birthday buddy! Fingers crossed you hit the big 250k soon guys! :)

    18. Oregon Pinkrose on September 6, 2012

      I'm confused.
Will there be a draft tournament every day?
And we would normally have to pay to enter that tournament every day?
But if we pay $32 we get one free entrance into a draft tournament and if we pay $1980 we get free entry to all draft tournaments for life, correct?

    19. Mark Patton on September 6, 2012

happy birthday. damn draft for life sounds awesome. if there is an in game real money auction house like diablo, this could be a good investment as well as a great move for Gary Games to get that last little push to 250k

Normal Draft: Have X ammount of boosters, eveyone opens a booster, take a card pass the pack to your left (your in a circle). Repeate untill all cards are taken. Then do it again with the next booster but pass the other way. Continue this untill all boosters are used up.

Sealed Draft: Open X ammount of boosters, design your deck arround what you have got.

    32. Stone Blade Entertainment 2-time creator on September 6, 2012

@Gaston- A draft is a tournament format where players take turns selecting cards from sealed packs and then passing them to other players. You build a deck from what you select, but win or lose you get to keep the cards you drafted!

      @Casey- Happy Birthday!

    33. Casey Miller on September 6, 2012

Happy Birthday Mr. Kibler! Upped my pledge from $25 to $32.

    36. David Kotsonis on September 6, 2012

Is the avatar going to be a picture of you with a jauntily-cocked birthday cone hat? Potentially with noisemaker in mouth? I would run that for life if so.

Happy early birthday, don't know if I'll be around for the livestream.
