Stretch Goals Reached
Where does the project currently stand?
We just completed our first Kickstarter project for the Quantum Expanse Game in November 2012 which covered the design and development of the prototype models and counters, the completion of the game’s rule set, and the delivery of the models and rewards to our Kickstarter backers. We can’t thank you enough for the support and assistance you gave us to get this game to where we are now!
Now we need your help again to move Quantum Expanse to the next phase of its development. We need to complete the production tooling for all 27 spaceship models, the counters, and the markers. We also need to design and develop literature, catalogs, and promotional materials necessary to make a full push into the retail market. Large scale funding of this project will also allow us to hire more staff members so we can turn around many new and innovative models and products. If this project is very successful we hope to purchase our own 3D printer which will allow us to speed the design time of new prototypes while reducing the costs.
This is where we need your help! We need your support and backing to help take this new game fully to market. In the process, we promise to focus our efforts to deliver the highest quality products and to work diligently to meet our deliver commitments from both the pledges and the rewards. Thanks in advance for your support and assistance!
Quantum Expanse is an innovative space fleet miniatures game for two or more players where players assume the role of a faction admiral seeking to lead their fleet to victory. The players choose the size, conditions, and objectives of each battle and typical games take between 1 to 2 hours to play. Players seek to win by eliminating the opposing ships, flag ship, or by achieving the scenario’s victory condition.
The game is set in the 40th century. Humanity has spread far and wide from its earthly cradle. Dark matter crystals provide vast amounts of quantum energy and enable faster than light travel; making them the key to the galaxy. Previously, there was only one known source located within the Terran Empire. The Terran Empire used the dark matter crystals to dominate all known star systems. Now a new source has been found in the Vega system within the expanse, outside the Empire, which is rapidly changing everything. The once mighty Terran Empire is caught in a brutal civil war and is unable to respond to this new discovery. War finally erupts in the expanse as factions in the expanse rush to seize control of this invaluable commodity, but unlike any other war in the past there are no alliances. No faction can afford to miss the opportunity to seize this invaluable commodity. It is all out war, the prize is a new empire!
All seven factions in the expanse seek to control the vital dark matter crystal resource recently discovered in the Vega system. Each faction moves to wrest control of this system in its own way, but one thing is certain there is no peace in the expanse and no deal or alliance is too strong to be broken. Due the volatile nature of this new dark matter crystal discovery, alliances are made and broken in a matter of weeks even rogue units within the same faction plot for power and position.
The spaceships in Quantum Expanse vary in size and configuration. Each type of ship has a specific role it plays on the battlefield. There are four major types of ships in the game, escorts, cruisers, capital ships, and carriers.
Escort ships are the smallest, least armored, and have the lowest amount of firepower. They provide the fleet with its primary scouting ability, its major stealth support, and the bulk of its defensive capabilities. Escorts are comprised of corvettes, frigates, and destroyers.
Cruisers are larger, better armed, and have greater firepower than the escort ships. They form the backbone of most fleets. Their versatility allows them to perform the roles of the escort ships, but at a greatly reduced capacity. Cruisers are comprised of light cruisers, cruisers, and battlecruisers.
The capital ship types are the primary warships of the fleet with the largest weapons and the most armor. Their mere presence on the battlefield causes them to become the center of action. Capital ships are comprised of battleships, dreadnaughts, and titans.
The carrier ship types carry fighter wings that allow them to project a great deal of firepower on the battlefield, but carriers are more lightly armored than other spaceships. Carriers are comprised of light carriers, carriers, and heavy carriers.
The Game Materials
Ship Stat and Faction Cards
All of our spaceship stat cards, fighter wing cards, and faction cards are playing card sized ( 3.5" H x 2.5" W ). They are constructed of heavy card stock and produced in full color on both sides with a UV coating to protect the card's surface from scratches and damage.
The Quantum Expanse rule book is a 36 page full color game manual for space fleet battles in the Quantum Expanse universe which includes a game introduction, historical timeline, game setup, game play, illustrated examples, factions, ship types, and charts.
All stretch goals are additional extras provided to backers who pledge $100 or more and will be shipped at no charge, unless they specifically show an additional pledge amount which is required to be added to the base pledge to gain the reward.
Rewards which show a Feb 2013 date will ship with the order and others will ship in a second package in Jun 2013.
All pledge packages allow access to the optional extras, shown below.
Add one or more optional extras, shown below, to your pledge by adding the listed amount for each optional extra to the base pledge amount. We will be sending a order form around after project funding showing your base pledge, total pledge amount, and the extra amount pledged for you to tell us which extras you want added to your base package.
For example a backer in the USA who selected the Battle Fleet package and wanted to add a Sentinel titan and two Atlantean Compact dice would increase their pledge to $197 ($180 Battle Fleet + $13 Sentinel class titan + $4 for the two Atlantean Compact dice).
Thanks again for your support and help with this project!
Due to the high cost of international shipping and the weight of the cast resin models we must ask our international backers to add the following amounts to their pledge:
Pledge International Shipping
Under $25 Add $10
$25 to $49 Add $15
$50 to $74 Add $20
$75 to $99 Add $25
$100 to $149 Add $30
$150 to $199 Add $35
$200 to $249 Add $40
$250 or More Add $45
Risks and challenges
Let me be completely honest, there is a good deal of work ahead to get Quantum Expanse into your hands and to complete the stretch goal rewards. We have already invested from both our own funds and from our first Kickstarter project to complete all prototypes and prototype molds. We have completed and received all of the printed literature, packaging, and merchandise. Now we need to complete all of the production molds and this is where we need your help.
Finally... the biggest challenge... fulfillment! Depending on how many backers there are, what rewards, options and stretch goals are met... we could be looking at packing and shipping a lot of unique rewards to customers all over the world. I need to manage expectations and be smart about every step of this project during and after the Kickstarter ends.
I am confident I can deliver a truly wonderful game to everyone.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
