Kick It Forward Angry Joe! -retro style

Hey backers,

Today we’re going to talk about a couple of things coming this week, and some PR bits and pieces. Quite a few of you are AngryJoe fans (and as it happens, so are a couple of our team!). You asked us to contact him about the game, so we did… in quite a big way. We know he’s a fan of science fiction, RPGs, and strategy games, so Garret (our Art Director) has produced this fan-art of Angry Joe as a grand admiral of The Mandate. We’d love for Angry Joe to check out the game concept, Prologue Creator, and Ship Designer, so please get onto him on Twitter via @Angryjoeshow.

We wouldn’t ask if we didn’t think he’d be into the game, but since many of you mentioned that he’d enjoy it, we’d love to get some feedback from him. Help us spread the word!

What’s more, we have another developer log right around the corner, notably one from Jimmy (Character Artist) which will take you through the 3D modelling process for both characters and ships and illustrate our approach to character and ship customization. You met Jimmy at MCM Comic Con, and the video for that event has now been uploaded to our YouTube channel.

We have been humbled by the Kickstarter process so far - and the community. We think crowdfunding provides for a wonderful way to both interact with the community to sharpen the game concept as well as raise money to create the games we have all dreamed of. An extra nod to our mature and constructive backers on our forums! With that in mind we have decided to embrace Brian Fargo’s Kicking It Forward initiative:

“Any project creator that puts the URL on their Kickstarter project page is agreeing that they will put 5% of their finished product profits back into other Kickstarter projects.”

To make that as clear as possible, 5% of total profit made from The Mandate (not 5% of the total amount raised), will go right back into Kickstarter projects. Let’s help fund some amazing games!

Also next week, we’re going to start contacting other Kickstarter projects and engaging in cross-promotion. These will be games we’re confident are being created by equally skilled and passionate teams, and they are games which should generally fit within the same genre or style of The Mandate. RPGs, space games, strategy games, things like that. We already have a list but if you feel we should reach out to a particular project, by all means give us a shout. Both current and previously funded Kickstarter projects are interesting.

We are heading to 250k - the halfway point for funding - and should hit that towards the end of this week. Our next interactive tool will launch to coincide with that, and we are confident you’ll all enjoy playing with. It’ll feed you some exclusive new lore, too! Here are some preview images, in a unique retro style, fitting the music we released in last weeks update…

Thanks again for everyone’s support, and rest assured, we’re busy planning, executing, and exploring!

This looks like exactly the kind of game I've been wanting for a long time. I've always wanted something that has the same feeling as Battlestar Galactica, but not just a mod for another game. This sounds absolutely fantastic. I cannot wait to play this when you guys complete it! Good luck! :D

If you're looking to cross-promote other Kickstartered games, may I suggest Josh Parnell's _Limit Theory_?

Josh has accomplished an amazing amount of work on his space combat/exploration/trading game already for just one person. And if you haven't seen his most recent update video #10, it's pretty remarkable. Beyond the game itself, Josh has just created a visual interface for modding Limit Theory, which Rock Paper Shotgun called "one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen."

Also, _The Mandate_ has been getting some positive discussion in the Limit Theory forums, so there's that. :)

@ Perihelion: not 'announced' as such, I just meant that we seem to have heard more about the other factions such as the Empire (Mandate) and the rebels.

@Helena: please clarify how the Pirates are the only faction that have not been announced..? ;)

    5. Creator Helena on November 4, 2013

I'm guessing SotM might have something to do with the pirates, since someone mentioned Sid Meier's Pirates in the last update? Also, they're the only faction that hasn't really been explored so far.

We know, interactive tool, with lore in it, Scourge of The Mandate. As Anastasia tweeters feed go the grand fleet will be no more for the end of the week.
The 3 images, the first, he is wearing something different from the other officer/captain, something like the dead emperor we see in the first trailer, maybe he is more graduate, as a duke or someone from the political side of the empire.
The second may be for the failure of the player character, as the superior hit the desk.
The third may be the destruction of the grand fleet or a sabotage and the death of someone important. As @AnaEmpress says 29 Oct - "Admiral Suvarov fears that this tactic leaves Novy Petersburg undefended against any rebels who slip past the Grand Fleet."
Scourge of The Mandate, as an non English people, definition : someone or something that causes a great amount of trouble or suffering; a whip that was used to punish people in the past.
So it's linked the the fall of the mandate empire.
Scourge(1987) return marvels comics about transformers and are define as "Scourge transforms into an odd "futuristic" vehicle that's something of a cross between a hovercraft and a spaceship"
So maybe something to play with in unity, like toys of the mandate.
For an interactive tool, the main character is important as a new captain and the jailed period being only 15 years it may be more about the world from some year before to the beginning, like interactive histories of the world.

It may also be something like the meme propaganda think, to promote the game.
      ... too much text
Thx for the video of the MCM, it's cool

Darn that music... I want it ingame. I want it on endless loop... The music is pure awesomeness :D

An interactive tool based upon "your" court martial? If so, I'm going to assume the tool will be used as a way of defining your character/personality??

    16. Creator Perihelion Interactive LLC on November 4, 2013

@All: So in the previous update it was established that sotm.mp3 was short for Scourge of The Mandate. With that in mind, and with the three pictures from today's update, we invite you to speculate on what exactly this new interactive tool will focus on... ;)
