Hi! My name is Dave.
I want to teach kids in the Fargo-Moorhead area how to make video games.
We've already run three very successful classes in making games through Minnesota State University Moorhead's College for Kids and Teens Program. We started with room for 40 students between two classes. The demand was so much that we expanded and expanded and ended up with 108 students between three classes!
What struck me was how fast it filled up. And even though we had 108 seats available, we reached our capacity over a month before classes would begin. This means that there were dozens of kids in the area that didn't get a chance to experience the class, to learn how to make their very own video games. Not only that, but I had so much fun teaching them how to make their own video games that I thought to myself, "Why can't I do this all year?"
With my wife Sammie's help, we created PODS Game Design, a small educational business.
Our plan is to offer classes in video game design to kids ages 10 to 18 in the Fargo-Moorhead area. We will go beyond the summer offerings and provide more classes throughout the year.
This fall, starting in September, we will run classes on Saturdays. And starting in January 2016, we will offer classes after school hours.
Not only do we want to teach kids how to make video games, but we want to inspire an entire generation of developers, designers, programmers, coders, graphic designers, and more in the Fargo Moorhead area.
One of the best things about video game design is how it incorporates elements of STEAM; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Each of these plays a critical role in creating a video game, scripting code, creating dialogue between characters, problem solving, and designing compelling worlds. And with our proven instructional experience with MSUM's College for Kids and Teens, we are just the people to provide the mentorship needed to help kids make their own games.
My dream for PODS Game Design is for our students to take their games home after class, show it to their friends and family, and say "Look at this. I made this."
Our model is to offer numerous sessions each month for different skill levels. Each session will cover between 4 and 5 classes of instruction. The cost for each session will be $120. Parents can register their children on our website or check out our rewards section for an excellent reward
We're using Kickstarter to raise funding for laptops and computer equipment to help make this business a reality. If you have an age-eligible child in the Fargo Moorhead area that's interested in creating games, check out our pledge rewards for registration codes for our upcoming sessions!
With your help, we at PODS Game Design can inspire children to make their very own video games.

Risks and challenges
We have a location, the software, the teaching experience, and knowledge of the demand. If we can purchase the laptops and related equipment, our risks will be minimal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
