We haven't found an upper limit yet. 50 works fine. You're not restricted to just CC either: PC , Note On / Off, aftertouch, pitchbend, turning on and off MIDI clock, tap for the master MIDI clock if Poly Expressive is sending clock.
We haven't destructively tested other MIDI controllers but the coated polycarbonate and aluminium composite construction of Poly Expressive is very sturdy. Coated polycarbonate is an expensive material but we think the long term reliability and light weight is worth it. If you want to see coated polycarbonate being tested, look on YouTube for Lexan MR10 or Makrolon AR. Also check out the video of me playing Poly with a hammer.
We don't recommend spilling drinks on any electronics or instruments in general but Poly Expressive is more spill resistant, as it doesn't have places for liquid to enter apart from the connectors. This is a lot less than traditional controllers which have switches on the top surface. Check out the video of me pouring a beer on it.
