About this project
Meet Jack Whyte - a self-taught multimedia artist, born just before the Second World War. At just a few years old, Jack discovered the joy of expressing himself through creativity and has since pursued a life focused around art.
We're incredibly excited to share this hard cover edition of Jack Whyte's story of art, Scrapbook. The book curates his work and life as an artist from the time of his birth in 1939 through present day, and serves as a compilation of his paintings, photography, sculpture, paper collage and just about every other medium and style he has practiced throughout his life. With a wealth of written history about the people and experiences that influenced Jack’s artistic journey, Scrapbook is a summary of a lifetime of art and creativity.
Some of Jack’s earliest influences include modelling with Mickey Mouse as a babe, betting on horses at the race track and of course being part of a multi-talented family.
Jack is proficient in traditional fine arts and is well practiced in modern mediums such as photography and digital illustration.
For over 55 years Jack has worked as a professional fine artist, creating thousands of original artworks, many of which now belong to private collections all over the world.
Scrapbook will be printed in very limited edition and will only be available to Kickstarter supporters through this campaign. Act fast before they’re all claimed!
If you’re an art lover who would like to support our campaign but can’t contribute financially, you can still help Scrapbook get to print by sharing our campaign through your social media channels and with your art loving friends. Since we truly believe that access to arts and culture should be free for everyone, we have already digitally published Scrapbook and have made it available for everyone to read online for free. After you’ve had a chance to explore and enjoy the digital version, we hope you’ll consider coming back to support the print campaign.

Risks and challenges
Producing the book was a wild challenge in and of itself. Scrapbook: a story of art was initially created as a digital-only publication, but after receiving repeated interest in the idea of a print edition, we knew we had to bring the book to life. We’ve searched all over for a print-on-demand service that could accommodate the book's requirements, which was a much more difficult endeavor than we had anticipated. Ultimately, we discovered that Scrapbook is simply too big for POD services and that crowdfunding would be the only way to effectively and affordably make print copies available.
Additional challenges have revolved around trying to establish reasonable shipping rates for the print version. We've calculated our costs based on the most current and cost effective rates that Canada Post is capable of offering, but we still have not found a way to bring those costs down to an economical level. We had hoped for the possibility of flat rate boxes (especially since Scrapbook is 2kg or 4.4lb and 8.5x11" of book!), however, there are no Canadian carriers that offer such a service. Unfortunately, since we’ve not yet been able to remedy the shipping challenges, we have been forced to restrict the list of countries that we can ship to on the global level.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
