Hello! Thanks for checking out my Kick Starter Project page!
About a year ago I got up the nerve to send some demos that I'd made in my house to a studio owner in Asheville, NC. He liked my work so I've been going over there about once a week since last June to record. I have a small studio set up in my house so up until then I was recording each instrument myself to find out what my songs would sound like with a full band. Please check out my home recordings at narenmusic.com Also check out landslidestudio.com to see the space in which I've been recording the past year. It's like the Taj Majal compared to my home studio. Sometimes I still can't beleive that I'm there.
So I didn't just want someone to sit there and hit record and play video games on their iphone while I poured out my soul. I wanted someone who cared about my music enough to help me shape and mold it and throw out ideas for new sounds or melodies that I wouldn't have thought of. I wanted someone to help me produce the record. Andrew (the owner of Landslide Studio) was the first person I spoke with. He really dug my tunes and after talking a bit we realized we had a lot in common musically. So I decided to look no further and record my music in his space.
After the initial meeting I asked two great musician friends of mine if they would help me out. They agreed and we went into the studio as a trio (me, drums, and bass) to get the basic tracks down. That is, the primary goal of those sessions was to get the drums where they needed to be for the final mix down. We did that for the first four songs in June of last year, and for the final six songs in January of this year. I have also hired two great keyboardists to put some organ and piano tracks on most of the songs, as well as a fantastic Steel Pedal guitar player. All of the musicians have been gracious enough to give their time and skills to me for minimal cost. I can only assume that this is because they believe in my music enough to do so. In fact one or two of them have said as much. Thanks to all of you for that!
So (friends, family, strangers), after having listened to my demos, and if you feel the same way as the musicians who have helped, please help me finish this project. No contribution is too small.
The project so far has been funded partially out of pocket and partially by a couple of family members. I'm also proud to say that I received a Regional Artist Project Grant from The Henderson County Arts Council. Thanks also to them for believing in me enough to help make this possible! I do however need about $4,000 more to push this thing into fruition. This figure includes the rest of the tracking, the mixing, mastering, graphics design, and duplication. Actually it's probably less than I really need but I'm asking for the bare minimum so that I may have a better chance of meeting my goal.
After the record is finished I intend to get it to as many outlets as I can find (i.e. TV, film, Web distribution, radio, etc.) and to get a band together to play shows in support of the album. So the figure above does not even touch the cost of how much networking that will require. Whew! There is a lot of work yet to be done. But I am looking forward to doing it and with your help I believe that I can. Thanks once again for your consideration. You Rock!!!
