Zeus commands you gods to hurl your mythic monsters down, hit the faithless mortals' cities, strike fear into their hearts, and send them running back into the temples!
Throw your monsters with cunning, combining their powers with location and other monster powers. Wreak havoc, edge out the other gods, and restore the most Faith in the Pantheon so Zeus declares you the winner!

We gods and goddesses grow wrathful before we grow weak... and we still have our monsters.
Each of your 12 monster cards has a unique tactical power on one side and a common power on the other. Choose which side to throw face up. Most monsters use their power when they hit something. But some, like the dreaded Gorgon, work as traps that use their power whenever something hits them.
Monster cards are Poker / Mtg size (2.5" x 3.5"), 350gsm ivory core cardstock for extra weight, with linen finish.

The faithless mortals luxuriate down there when they should be in the Temples worshiping the Pantheon!
Throw your monsters down at locations to trigger their powers and gain Faith generated by the mortals as they flee to the temples. Each game scenario plays with 5 of the 11 locations so there are always different combinations to try.

MONSTROUS is a tactical dexterity game.
Players take turns throwing monster cards down at locations on the table to score the most Faith.
Every turn you need to choose the best monster card to throw and combine with location powers - and the monstrous mayhem on the table. Can you spot the best combinations? Do you go for that long shot worth more points, or play it safe with an easy throw? Do you lay a Gorgon as a trap in the thick of the action or punch through a scrum of monsters with your Hydra to reach the mortals beneath?
Then you hurl your mythic monster down at the mortals. The fate of the Pantheon is in your hands.

Monstrous is releasing a 19 card Legendary Monstrous expansion.
Monstrous is already deluxe. But we want to cram even more mythic fun and monstrous mayhem into the box free for our backers. With your help we will are bringing a completely play tested mini expansion for Monstrous to life.
The Legendary Monstrous expansion introduces a special location, Tartarus, played as the central location when you want a power game with more mayhem and chaos that lasts a little longer. If you know your Greek mythology, you know Tartarus is where the most fearsome foes were imprisoned by Zeus after their defeat.
The expansion comes with 8 legendary monsters that you draw into when you hit Tartarus. These are unruly neutral monsters of great power. You only exert temporary control over them as you hurl them down to wreak havoc on the mortals and monsters. Included are;
- the Minotaur
- The Kraken
The Kraken is as you would expect, a special event of colossal gaming proportions. It comes with 10 board clearing tentacles that all players throw first to wipe out most of the monsters on the table before the Kraken itself is thrown.

Risks and challenges
This is our first game production, but we are experienced in game retailing and international logistics and distribution. We started small and built up - but always with a focus on a quality experience. We are approaching game publishing the same way.
We have designed the Monstrous project to minimize the logistical risks that affect so many projects.
We printed 60 production quality preview copies of MONSTROUS to send to reviewers and sort out many of the issues you normally experience during full production. We tested proof prints, ironed out print issues, tested the extra thick 350gsm card stock with linen finish worked well when thrown, had dies made to cut components, and sorted out quality control issues.
Unlike many game manufacturers, our printers are able to complete this print run within about 6 weeks of getting started. Some printers can take 5 or 6 months to print, adding to delays and your frustration.
We have added on 1 month to our production schedule for slippages or delays.
We have a printer with competitive rates at high volumes as a backup just in case.
100% of the core game art is complete. Half of the legendary monster art is too. The final art will be completed as the kickstarter campaign concludes.

Full draft rules have been made available there too for your feedback during the campaign. These will be prepared for production at the tail end of the campaign.
We are airmailing our games worldwide from a well established discount fulfillment service in China. They have capacity to handle hundreds of pack and pick orders per day. Along with other game developers that have used them with great success, we have tested them with our preview sends and are happy with their service.
Your games will take between 1 and 4 weeks to arrive averaging around 2. This is 4 - 8 weeks faster than sending them by boat then post.

Of course shipping is never really free, but we have found a way to bundle it in for everyone on earth so you don't have to think about it.
We are using a new more equitable method of Kickstarter fulfillment that ships by airmail from China. This levels shipping costs for backers all around the world, without anyone 'subsidizing' anyone else. We want to do this for the thousands of gamers outside the US so everyone gets that free feeling.
We are passionate about this method and hope it becomes a new standard, leading to more successful game projects and more backers getting those games without paying unnecessary shipping. The more support we get, the more common this approach will be.
Most projects sea freight their thing to the US or Europe (4 - 8 weeks), then road freight to a fulfillment company (1 week), then spend 1 - 2 weeks packing and mailing things, then another 3 - 5 days on the road. So about 10 weeks on average.
The direct airmail from China method we use reduces this to 1 - 4 weeks with a 2 week average shaving 2 months off the delivery time frame! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!
We have designed MONSTROUS to be VAT exempt when being mailed into the EU zone.
Most countries with VAT charges have a threshold below which they do not collect VAT. MONSTROUS' shipping free declared value is legitimately under official VAT free thresholds of EU€22 / GBP₤15 used in the EU (except France, Sweden and Greece, Denmark - backers in these countries please use the EU friendly shipping reward tier). It's also under the Canadian CAD$20 VAT / HRT limit.
However, if you are in the EU and you live in France, Sweden, Greece, Denmark or Romania, or you still worry that you might somehow be charged VAT and handling charges, then please select the EU Friendly shipping reward tier. It costs a little more to sea freight the games to Germany and mail inside Europe. And it takes another month or so. But you will most certainly get your game of MONSTROUS without paying additional VAT or handling fees.

Kickstarter backers should get their items before they appear in retail right? We are taking that 1 step further.
We think its fair that those who back a project first, are sent it first too. Because you know what? Shipping kickstarter rewards is entirely random and that doesn't make sense.
So the first 750 backers of Monstrous will be sent their games a day or 2 earlier than all the other backers. Its not a big deal but its a fitting gesture of thanks to early backers.
Please note that while we can guarantee to SEND certain games first, due to the nature of international shipping even the Olympians do not have the power to guarantee first wave shipping rewards will arrive earliest, but they should on average do so.
And why 750? Well lots of reasons but the main one is that we did not this offer to disappear fast in a stampede of Monstrous loyalists. We want people completely new to Monstrous to be able to get into the first wave of Monstrous attacks too.
It'll only take a couple of days to send out the first wave. Then we will start on all of our other awesome backers.
We want a quality project that runs smoothly and lands at backers doors as fast as possible. So we are keeping it clean and simple for our first project.
And we won't skimp on quality. Ever.
We've already made the game deluxe, with beautiful art, on thick 350gsm cardstock ideal for throwing, and with linen finished components right out of the box.
We do have a stretch goal cluster to announce that will add tremendous value to the project, and add something really special if we make it through all of our stretch goals. These elements have been thoroughly play tested. We wont be adding anything that hasn't.
We think stretch goals beyond those would just add time delays and risk postage cost blowouts.
We are confident you will enjoy Monstrous as it is. Read and watch the reviews if you have any doubts.
If all goes well there will be more Monstrous in the future, but we will take the time to make it right.
We sorted out a variety of production issues early when we printed our 60 production quality preview copies. Dies are made, and processes tested.
Because we are limiting stretch goals we minimize further delays and risk.
We have access to money to pay for printing to commence before we get our kickstarter money. Kickstarter success confirms we can invest and recoup that money and signals how many copies to print for kickstarter fulfillment and for regular distribution.
We have chosen a manufacturer that can produce the game to our high standards within 6 - 8 weeks rather than the 16 - 24 weeks quoted by some of the more popular manufacturers which have a long production backlog.
