Well, shift is about sharing stories, ideas and experiences that are changing our whole community. Issues affecting gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and queer community are the focus, but it's open to articles and stories from diverse perspectives and angles. Good, bad and timely news will be shared in a bi-weekly publication fueled by contributors across the state and will provide a space for voices of all generations and identities.
What's the funding for?
I could start shift in my living room funded only by me, but your support does two very important things for the project.
1. It helps shift start off right, with a strong product and the equipment to go out and really tell the story. It helps us refund contributors that might travel to a story and helps us to purchase pod casting equipment to give this multimedia site a diverse range of voices, literally.
2. It tells us that shift is on the right track. That we're creating something that you want to be a part of, that communities farther than Maine can look to a site dedicated to the progress and struggles of such a unique state on the edge of great things in the larger GLBTQ news world. Sounds pretty cool, doesn't it!?
What will shift do?
Shiftmaine.com will mobilize a network of people as journalists and contributors enabling timely and relevant coverage. Simply put, it's a space for GLBTQ (and allied) voices to share news, information and ideas to help our community grow stronger and as the project grows to tap into other communities successes/failures to learn from and teach each other.
The GLBTQ community has been one of many groups spending a significant amount of time in the spotlight lately with several states making the historical move to pass gay marriage. It's progress that has rightfully made headlines but it's one issue and this space would allow for a diverse range of issues to be brought up and discussed.
We hope you're as excited about this site as we are and thank you so very much for your support at any level.
Shift does not currently have a 501(c)3 status, but may consider applying as shift succeeds.

Yes! Anything over the $3500 goal will all go towards shift getting started right! It's only if we do not reach $3500 that we don't receive any of the funding.
No. Only you and Emma will be able to see your pledge amount.
Yes, of course! To "gift" your reward to someone else, please follow the normal process with the pledge and payment in your name. Once we've reached the February 12 deadline, we'll send you an email requesting you information (address, etc.). Please reply with the contact info for the person that you'd like the reward to go to and we'll send it their way!
Feel free to use the contact link on this page or connect with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Looking forward to hearing from you!
If the goal isn't met by February 12 (at 3:28 p.m. EST) we do not receive any of the pledges and your credit/debit card will not be charged.
