About this project
My name is Rob John. I was a public school teacher for 20 years, and I loved my job. I found my niche in first grade, and I taught that for the last thirteen years. However, I've always had the itch to be self-employed in some sort of food establishment. About a year and a half ago, I decided to call it quits to teaching and start my business.
My food truck, WhipOut!, has been quite an evolution from my original thoughts about starting a business. I began by writing a business plan and studying the food truck industry. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to produce...delicious American comfort food, but ramped up. I hired two very talented, key people, a chef and a graphic artist.
We'll smoke our meats and cheese, and all of our delicious pickles and sauces will be truck made as well. The chef has taken my concepts to an artisan level making our fare over-the-top YUM!
These are just a few of the many delectable sliders we have in store for our customers. Specials and desserts, as well as small brew root beer, lemonade and sweet tea will round out our fare.
Kevin and Kate are the names of my whippets. They were the inspiration for the graphics and the name WhipOut! Speed is the message. I want to get our food out very quickly while maintaining excellence. The graphic artist has portrayed that with cuteness and whimsy.
It's been a long road so far, and I'm almost there. I've gotten a great diesel step van with an 18' cargo area, perfect for a mobile kitchen. My truck is being outfitted with a griddle, stove top, oven, fryers, and a smoker large enough to hold a small pig.
One of the greatest features of this truck is that it has a diesel engine. I can recycle my fryer oil and run on cleaner burning, renewable, sustainable bio-diesel. Here in Berkeley, we have a bio-diesel station that sells B99.9 grade. The number next to the B is the percent of bio-diesel, and the rest is petroleum diesel. So, be careful of signs that just say "Bio-Diesel" when they may be selling B5 or B50. I'm committed to running my business in the most environmentally friendly way possible. http://biofueloasis.com/
As with any new business, there are seemingly endless and costly bells and whistles. With a food truck, I think there are more. I have to provide my own power and plumbing systems on top of everything else. That's why I've come to KICKSTARTER.
I've been very careful to keep the integrity of my plan, but now I need some help. Your donation will provide me with funds to carry forward and finish my truck.
