webOS - Amazing Operating system needs more apps!
The HP Touchpad was released to the market in 2011, and was simultaneously praised and criticized by both technology journalists and consumers. Over the following months many of the shortcomings were addressed, with the exception of one very significant issue – the selection of apps. Although the HP App Catalog contains thousands of apps available for purchase and free to download, a number of high profile apps were missing, and the premature cancellation by HP of webOS hardware production pretty much ensured that those apps would never be made available for webOS.
What about Dual-booting?
As a workaround, many Touchpad owners have resorted to installing Android on their devices, dual booting into Android when they wanted to access unavailable apps, then returning to webOS for its unique user interface, powerful multitasking features, and its impressive Synergy email client, which even now remains superior to those from iOS and Android.
Our Fundraising Goal - $35,000 There’s a lot of work to be done, but together we have the technology, we have the engineers, we have the determination, and with the community’s backing we will have the funding to finally address the Touchpad’s “App Gap” and give its owners the total experience they’ve been waiting so long for. Our fundraising goal is $35,000, which will keep development at full speed so we can have this great application completed and rolled out to you in July. We’ll welcome any contribution, large and small – even if you don’t have a Touchpad we’re inviting you to contribute anyway to a project that is going to certainly breathe a lot of new life into our struggling platform. Should we surpass our funding goal, we will gladly invest in programs, development, and future updates. We are in the business of developing and promoting the webOS platform, and if you are a webOS fan, we definitely have something great in the pipeline coming up for you!

We’re really excited to be working on it, and are looking forward to great things for webOS, so let’s all pool our resources and make it happen together. Thanks from me, and on behalf of the dozens around the world who are part of the PIC team.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we have to face is one that is common to many software projects. Software development is an intricate business, and ideas and approaches which look great on paper and on the whiteboard do not always work out the way one intends.
Fortunately however, this project is not starting from scratch. As shown in the video demonstration, a functional proof-of-concept alpha version has already been created and tested on actual HP Touchpads, and the tasks involved in completing the software and readying it for consumer use are well defined and clear. Furthermore, our plans include conducting a fairly extensive beta test aimed at uncovering hidden bugs and ensuring that maximum compatibility and performance is achieved.
As such, we are confident that the software will be completed as promised and we will be able to release the finished application to the market in July 2013.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
