Thanks to our backers, we have already met our base goal. This game will be produced. Now the challenge is to aim higher and reach out to make the game a fuller and richer product and experience. Help us reach our stretch goals (see below).
UNLOCKED! $95k KS EXCLUSIVE - Captains' Personal Spell Cards. Each one of the 21 Captains now unlocked will have a dedicated Spell Card. "Uhland's Corrosion" or Delann's Whisper" or something like that. You'll be able to start with your particular Captain's personal Spell Card at the outset, or throw them all into the Spells Deck and see what shakes out. These go out in every Kickstarter Edition game, but not thereafter. (Kickstarter Exclusive Card Deck now at 21 cards.)
UNLOCKED! $100k - Double-sided Tiles.
UNLOCKED! $110k KS EXCLUSIVE - Captains' Personal Tactics Cards. Like the Spell cards above, except Tactics Cards this time. "Kitsune's Dash"? "Zhao's Feint"? We'll find out at 110k! (Kickstarter Exclusive Card Deck now at 42 cards.)
UNLOCKED! $115k KS EXCLUSIVE - 7 New Ally Cards - One for each faction. (Kickstarter Exclusive Card Deck now at 49 cards.)
UNLOCKED! $120k - 3D Quest Markers. This is pure luxury. Keep your quest chits from being blown around due to errant sneezes by cradling them into these stylish caddies. And yes, they will fit inside the hex without overlap. (No, these are not necessary for gameplay. They are just decorative. You will get some, and you will be able to buy more cheap as add-ons, if you like. Details to follow once we all get a good night's sleep.)
UNLOCKED ! $125k KS EXCLUSIVE - 5 New Tech Cards - One of each type. (Kickstarter Exclusive Card Deck now at 53 cards.)
UNLOCKED ! $130k - 7 new ship minis, one for each faction. These can either be bought at the normal add-on prices, or you can get them as part of the any of the Super pledge levels ($110, $145, $249, $299, $320 and above).
UNLOCKED ! $135k - Ship Playmat for "The Aeriopolis". Yes you can finally wield this powerful floating fortress. 1 in every game box.
$140k - A leather bag in all super pledges
$175k - Another 7 new ship minis, one for each faction. Just like the 130K stretch goal above. That way all 21 Captains will have a ship of their own, if you care about such things. We do.
$188k - 8th Faction. We have plans. We have definite plans. Oh, yes we do. This will be 1 new ship for every game box, plus 2 new ships for Super pledgers or as add-ons, plus 3 new Captain Cards for every game box, plus 3 new Captains' Personal Tactics Cards and Captains' Personal Spell Cards in every game box.
$200k - Something wonderful...
Risks and challenges
When putting a game together, there are many steps along the way. This game has lots of custom-made parts-- the map, the dice, the cards, the tokens, the booklets, and the miniatures. All of these need to converge into one custom designed box and magically delivered to your home address.
Our team has many veterans aboard.
Our Creative Director, Aaron VanNice, has 15 years professional design experience including his time at Industrial Light & Magic.
Our Producer, Derek Jurovich has 16 years of managing projects, interfacing with overseas and local manufacturers, previous game production and fulfillment experience.
The rest of our team are all experts in their own areas including content writing, graphic design, conceptual art, video editing, game testing, and marketing.
We are all avid gamers and want to thank you for supporting this project.
Thank you again,
IOworldsLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
A stretch goal is a monetary goal beyond the initial pledge goal. It says that if a project is overfunded by so many dollars, then the extra funding will be used to pay for expanding the features of possibilities of the funded project.
For us, stretch goal funding allows us to pay for more miniatures and creating expansions to the base game. Some goals will be automatically included in the base game, while some will be available to purchase as add-ons.
To add and Add-on to your pledge, just increase the amount of money in your pledge by the amount of the add-on. Example: Forward Deck ($75) + the canvas map ($19) = $94. When the Kickstarter ends, we will send out a survey to all Backers to get their shipping addresses. Simply indicate on that survey which Add-On or Add-Ons your extra money is intended to cover.
Adding more than one Add-On works the same way. For example: Uncharted Waters ($125) + 4 airship minis ($28) + 75 gold coins (3 × $5 = $15) + 50 platinum coins (2 × $5 = $10) = $125 + $28 + $15 + $10 = $178. Again you would indicate on the survey what the money covers, plus which 4 ships you want and how many of each type of coins (in 25-coin batches).
Can someone explain all this "Super Pledge" stuff to me? How do I get one without losing my Early Bird status? And I also have many other related questions!
First there are some pledges that are already "Super" pledges. They are the pledge levels at $110, $145, and $249 and up. If you have pledged at any of these levels, then your pledge is already Super and you get all the Super additions. (BTW, you cannot double-Super a game.)
If you are not at one of the abovementioned pledge levels, then you can Super your current pledge level at a cost of $35 per game to be Supered. (Note: The $10 and $20 levels *cannot* be Supered.) If you are, for example, at the $60 level, you can Super it by adding on $35, bringing your total pledge (apart from any other add-ons you might also have) to $95. If you are at one of the pledge levels that gets multiple games, then you can choose to Super some or all of then at a cost of $35/game.
If you are at the $125 level (Uncharted Waters) it is cheaper for you to go up to the $145 level than to Super your current pledge, so do that if spots are still available.
When you make a pledge Super, you are adding the following to your pledge: 3 White Sails minis, 3 Spawn of the Kobolos minis (KS Exclusive!), 6 canvas bags, and 40 metal coins. This means that each Kickstarter Edition game that you Super will have a total of 4 White Sails minis, 4 Spawn of the Kobolos, 8 canvas bags, and 100 metal coins.
Should this just be added to the Add-On chart? Yes, it should. It really should. But it might now, so you get this here at least.
Everything you need to play comes in the box out of the gate. The extra add-ons enhance the play experience. At any given time there can be 4 white sails and 4 Kobolos Spawn. These are represented by counters. If you purchase the miniatures than you could use these instead but you do not need to. Purchase additional ships so you have one to paint and one to play or have 2 copies so 2 people can play the same ship in 2 on 2 co-operative games. Buy more canvas or leather bags so that all the counters and coins have a nice home. You can buy more coins so that you would not need to exchange lower denomination coins for higher denomination coins as often, it can be fun to have a pile of gold coins on the ship. You can also use the metal coins for other games or just because you like gold.
Are the "Spotter in the Crows' Nest", "Harbor of Refuge", "Shakedown Cruise", and "Forward Deck" pledge rewards the same thing other than the dollar amount?
Yes. "Spotter in the Crows' Nest", "Harbor of Refuge", and "Shakedown Cruise" are only at lesser amounts as special incentives for early backers. They are also limited in quantity, so once they are gone, you'll need to move up to the next category. Or you could just pledge "Forward Deck" even though the cost is higher because you really want to pledge more money than you need to. We are okay with that, and we thank you.
They are 25mm bases ( 1") 60-75 mm (2-3") wide and 65-75 mm (2.5 "to 3") tall.
The Kobolos miniature is on a wider base (will cover a few hexes) and stands about 100mm (4") tall.
Yes in fact they do. This is not a "some assembly required game". The miniatures will be assembled at manufacturing and ready to play out of the box.
We have decided to include the Kobolos Dragon in all Kickstarter pledges above 55.00. Its is just too cool not to share. After the Kickstarter, the dragon will not be part of the retail base set, it is a Kickstarter version only. It will be available for retail separately.
As long as we reach the stretch goal this mega miniature will be part of the set.
We have a gameplay video. Scroll up and you'll find it.
We have posted the quick start rules. The URL link is at the top of the page.
"Uncharted Waters" packs will be out in the middle to end of June. The packs will include everything you need to play the game including printed map except for the final miniatures. You will also receive the final game when produced.
Beta testing will be in several stages:
We will have a Beta Tester invite only forum set up right after the Kickstarter ends. We will be making available on the forum digital copies of the full rules, digital copies of the cards and map so there can be much preliminary analysis and constructive discourse before you receive your physical Beta copy in June.
Then beyond the forum we will be sending out several surveys through survey monkey that will allow us to compile group feedback. In addition we will have several Google + meeting for some live discussion.
You will also have early digital access to our Alpha pre-production expansion.
In June you will get a physical Beta kit including the canvas map.
In Oct-Nov you will be receiving your final production version with miniatures and of course your name in the manual.
Note: The Buried Treasure level also includes Beta testing access, Beta kit and the printed canvas map.
And the "early access to all future games" means that we will provide pre-release all-digital version of our future games for you, so you can download and print out and try them--and hopefully giving us helpful suggestions as well.
I'm intrigued by the Buried Treasure package, but I live in Canada. If I pay for the added postage, can I still get one? How much would that cost?
We now have a pledge level just for you. Please see the "Northwest Passage" pledge level at $320.

Hey! The Kobolos doesn't have enough legs to be a dragon. Doesn't that mean he is actually a wyvern?
Technically, yes, she is. But when a huge fire-breathing reptile comes charging at your city, swatting Skyships out of the air like they were tiny two-inch miniatures, the first words out of your mouth are likely to be "Run! It's a dragon!" So the name "The Kobolos Dragon" is sort of stuck as the popular term, despite the many complaints and press releases by the Teramyyd Society of Dracology.
We will be shipping through a fulfillment partner in Germany. All EU backers, we have the VAT handled. No extra VAT or Customs costs for you.
