Potential Fit Issue
As some of you are starting to receive notices that your bands are on the way, we've discovered a potential fit issue that may or may not affect you.
Basically, not all Apple Watch cases are identical. The slots where the connectors slide into can have a bit of variance, and it only takes about 0.05mm to make difference between a perfect fit (which we're trying to achieve) and no fit at all. I just took this video of my friend's watch compared to mine and you'll see what I mean. I'm using the same band and the same side on both watches but the difference is drastic.
I'm buying this watch off him (this will be my 5th sample) to send to the factory tomorrow morning to deal with this. None of the previous 4 units I had have ever been one of these tighter ones, so unfortunately, we weren't able to work around this until now.
We're still going to continue shipping these out because this won't affect all of you (we estimated the first generation had this issue about 3-4% of the time, and maybe slightly more with Series 2 now it seems). I'll be discussing a plan of action with them in the coming days after they've had a chance to measure all the dimensions of this sample, but I'm going to try to make extra connectors for those of you who may experience this issue, and they'll be easily swappable like how the rest of the links are adjustable.
If you're wondering why no other bands on the market seem to have this issue, it's because they've all made them looser than we would've liked (including Apple's own), and we tried to eliminate some of the vertical wiggle by making it a more precise fit. But as you can see in the video, if the watches aren't identical, this really hurts us despite the good intentions we had going into this.
Please feel free to send me any questions you may have, but rest assured, we'll take care of this, even if it may take a few weeks. If you DO have this fit issue, don't force it in and please message me about it.
Apologies once again for this trouble, but developing a custom product for the first time does have its issues more often than not, especially with a product that requires so much precision.
