VIA Collective is a multinational theatre company based in London. The group formed on the Advanced Theatre Practice MA at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. The collective is distinctive, as it is a cooperative made up with both scenographers and performers that are passionate about generating visually and physically charged work.
So why are we asking for your help? The creative process for our new show is set to take place both in London and in Iceland. As the UK chapter is approaching its final leg, we are getting ready for a new and exciting chapter overseas. We have been invited for a residency in Jon Sigurdsson Museum in Iceland, where we will devise the final layer of our performance and work with local theatre makers. But this journey is not a cheap one: the travel costs are not covered, and they are added to our modest production budget, which also has to cover rehearsal spaces, set design, costumes, lighting, props and one bottle of whiskey.
This is where YOU come into the picture! We invite you to join our journey by supporting us in the making. Any donation will be a tremendous contribution for this dream to come true. And we DREAM BIG! We have a great selection of treats and tokens for every donation, crafted especially for you. Let’s go on this journey together.
FLEET is an actual journey between climates and atmospheres, lands and minds, which sets out to find what happens when a canon of bodies run through the Universe. Where every body is a planet in space, this will be a venture that transcends the perimeters of our dimension. Have you ever wondered what it is to ‘leave an explorer behind’? Or what it is like to be an orbiting planet? Or how many pairs of shoelaces it would take to walk to China? These days, when virtual reality overpowers genuine physical experiences – we look to ‘go’ and bring an outdoor travel indoors.
Risks and challenges
FLEET. is set to be presented at a major London venue at the beginning of September 2014. We are currently in negotiation with several theatres for this purpose, and being backed by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama – one of London’s leading performance arts establishments – We are confident in our ability to accomplish our goals.
We have formed an affiliation with several organizations both in Iceland and in the UK, and with their artistic and financial support we are assured that the show will be realized and promoted to large and diverse audiences.
On a personal note, we see this as the first chapter of a long and fruitful relationship as a devising company. We have formed on a basis of shared artistic visions, and believe that a successful process will send us on a very meaningful adventure together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
