Whole-body Anole - Stained with Alcian - 8 Dram Vial (25 ml) - $50
Single Stained Fish - Alizarin or Alcian - 8 Dram Vial (25 ml) - $45
We do not want to kill fish to make these specimens so we will collect five different types of dead fish from local fish store friends (tons of fish die a day). You will pick the type of fish you want and the stain you would like once the kickstarter campaign ends. You can also suggest a type of fish you would like for us to collect, but they will be roughly 3-4" in length.

Our major goal with launching this kickstarter is be able to have the funds to hire help with preparing specimens and to be able to purchase a large volume of chemicals and reduce our costs. The chemicals we use are very expensive in small quantities and making these specimens can be very time consuming. By being able to purchase $2,000+ of chemicals at a time we will be able to greatly reduce our costs and provide these specimens at the prices shown above. Otherwise it is just not possible to produce these specimens for such a low cost.
After we meet our goal of $5,000 with this kickstarter we will immediately purchase all of the chemicals we need to fulfill our orders and will hire undergraduate students at Rutgers University to help with many of the laborious tasks. These students are quite easy to obtain as college students on campus are always looking for summer work.
We hope to fulfill the first 100 specimen orders within 3 weeks of this kickstarter closing and then we hope to be producing around 100-200 specimens per week to meet demand. Once we have the chemicals and help we can make these specimens quite quickly, but it is difficult to do so without the required cash. However, if we are able to far exceed our goal of $5,000 we will be able to meet very large demands as our processes are scalable and we will just hire additional help. We hope that once we receive this cash and produce all of the kickstarter rewards we will be able to continually produce these specimens and sell to various hobbyists and collectors as they are a unique and high quality work of art.
The non specimen rewards will also all be shipped out within three weeks of this kickstarter ending. As for the more expensive rewards these will be negotiated between the funder and our team. We would love to have dinner and lunch with everyone right after the kickstarter ends, but we will be busy making specimens. These dates and times will be negotiated so that they work for everyone.

We're a group of Rutgers graduate students who are the founders of Phytosys LLC and the developers of Visikol. Initially, we had set out to create a clearing agent for plants to replace the toxic and highly regulated chemical, chloral hydrate in our plant biology lab. But along the way, it became rapidly apparent that this compound not only had great potential in academic research, but also created amazing cleared specimens that simply blew away everything else we could find. While other chemicals had degraded tissues and left specimens poorly stained, Visikol was able to produce brilliant works of art in an amazingly short period of time. We knew this could not remained confined in an academic lab.
Through launching TaxiClear we aim to take Visikol from a chemical used in laboratories to an artistic tool that can bring biology to life. Because Visikol was targeted towards academic researchers, it has been inaccessible to hobbyists and artists. While Visikol has become widely used for research, we have not yet had the opportunity to make it available to artists or hobbyists.
Risks and challenges
This project is our first attempt at using Visikol for art and providing specimens to customers. We have had a solid track record of delivering orders quickly and responding to customer inquiries immediately for Visikol and hope to be able to do the same for TaxiClear.
We have spent the last year perfecting our protocols to produce these beautiful works of art and hope to use the funds from this Kickstarter to consistently and quickly produce these high quality specimens. The only obstacle that we foresee is meeting the demand for these specimens and shipping them quickly enough to our supporters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
