About this project
This is a fundraising campaign to raise research, development and production funds for The River Runs Through Us, a public radio series created and produced by Writer's Voice.
We need these funds as a condition of our grant to continue producing the series. This money will be used for research and development costs, travel and production expenses. This series, and Writer's Voice, is produced by volunteers out of a love for literature and the arts. Your support allows us to continue that work and to share it nationally. This campaign finances the production of the final three episodes in the series.
The River Runs Through Us is a six-part series of one-hour radio broadcast episodes, as part of the ongoing Writer’s Voice community and public radio program, that examines contemporary challenges through the creative, metaphorical and historical lens of the Connecticut River by engaging writers, journalists and scholars in a long form public conversation.
Co-hosted by Francesca Rheannon and Drew Adamek, each episode examines a single theme by drawing on multiple humanities disciplines treatment of the Connecticut River -- history, fiction, journalism, performing arts and other creative arts. The series features author interviews, readings, audio documentary and captured performance.
The structural format of the series covers three major contemporary issues, with two episodes dedicated to each issue. The topics addressed in the series include environmental degradation, economic inequality and spirituality.
With the help of a generous grant from Mass Humanities, Writer's Voice has already produced three of the six shows in the series. (They can be found here here and here.) The third show airs February 22, 2013. The series airs on 25 public radio stations around the country.
Please help us continue bringing the types of long form, literate conversations so needed in this time of brevity.
Risks and challenges
We anticipate very few obstacles in the four remaining episodes. Our first two episodes went smoothly, with very good author and scholar participation and excellent production support from WMUA.
Francesca and Drew, the production and co-hosting team, are experienced journalists and producers dedicated to creating thoughtful and insightful work. They have decades of journalism experience between them.
The River Runs Through Us has strong institutional ties that offer excellent structural and logistical support in the event of obstacles. Mass Humanities' financial support has been instrumental in producing this project. Dr. Kerry Buckley of Historic Northampton serves as our humanities scholar, giving us a depth of scholarship and perspective that ensures our continued success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
