PRE-ORDER WATERSHED'S NEW SUMMER SINGLE
Columbus, Ohio's Watershed are back with two new songs just in time for summer. "Best Worst Night" and "Hey Lydia" were produced and recorded by Tim Patalan at The Loft in Saline, Michigan, during a blow-out Halloween weekend that stretched into a blow-out Halloween week.
Fans of Joe Oestreich's memoir HITLESS WONDER will remember Patalan as the raccoon-raising, peacock-petting guru/genius who taught Watershed how records are made, producing some of the band's best work, including the albums THE MORE IT HURTS, THE MORE IT WORKS and FIFTH OF JULY. The two new songs, "Best Worst Night" and "Hey Lydia," capture the boozy vibe of The Loft and are perfect examples of the roll-the-car-windows-down power pop that Watershed has become known for during their thirty year career.
This CD single (the 4th volume of the band's long running "single series") will also include, for the first time ever in digital format, two highlights from Watershed's 1990 cassette produced by Columbus rock legend Willie Phoenix: "Rise" and "Freedom." Twenty-six years ago Phoenix took the not-quite-drinking age Colin, Joe, and Herb into Musicol Studios and coaxed a legit EP out of them (fans of HITLESS WONDER will remember this session as the time when the band decided to drop out of Ohio State and hit the road full-time despite Willie's warning that they weren't yet good enough).
So this current summer single features the NEW (produced by Patalan) and the OLD (produced by Phoenix). It also features the RARE, including a demo of "Cracking Up," a song that has become a cult favorite among Watershed superfans.
Plus: Two in-studio performances. A recording of "Set the World on Fire" live from the Big Room at CD102.5, which is maybe the best radio station in America, and Colin and Joe playing an acoustic version of "Romantic Noise" live in the SiriusXM studios in Washington, DC.
Also: A live version of "The Capo Song" recorded in 1990 at CBGB in NYC, during Watershed's first-ever appearance at the famed punk club (if you read HITLESS WONDER, this is the show that started with Biggie stepping in dog shit and ended with Watershed getting blown off the stage by Victorian stripper-librarians).
Here's a recap of the lineup:
1. Best Worst Night (produced by Tim Patalan at The Loft)
2. Hey Lydia (produced by Tim Patalan at The Loft)
3. Rise (produced by Willie Phoenix in 1990)
4. Freedom (produced by Willie Phoenix in 1990)
5. Cracking Up (demo recorded in Poochie's basement)
6. Set the World on Fire (live from CD102.5 Big Room)
7. Romantic Noise (live acoustic at SiriusXM in DC)
8. The Capo Song (live at CBGB in NYC, 1990)
As an added bonus we are throwing in some classic gig flyers designed by the great Mike "Biggie" McDermott.
Risks and challenges
The majority of the work is done. We're just hoping you will consider pre-ordering the single so that we can afford to have the songs mastered and the disks manufactured. We need $1200 to make this work. Any money above the target amount will go toward expenses for the next full-length Watershed album, which is in the works as we type this.
