A run of 5x amazing ThisIsYourTrial comedy shows that will become a highlight of the greatest comedy festival on the planet, the Edinburgh Fringe, which runs throughout August. We will be there between the 5th and 9th.
This project is part of our bigger plan to establish the name and reputation of ThisIsYourLaugh as a specialised event planning service, producing personalised comedy shows.
Our approach to creating live comedy events is based on shows written specifically for the audience, with the guidance of the person or organisation that books our service.
We have a choice of formats that can adapt to any celebration or group. It's the planning and research of the group making the booking that ensures all the laughs are focused on the people in the audience. We make the shows about you.
London is our current home but having already done shows as far away as Cornwall, Hastings and Wales, we know we can travel and still put on a great show.
The trip to Edinburgh is a big step along the way towards establishing ThisIsYourTrial as a popular show in the world of live comedy. We will be there for the first week of the festival. It will also be a true test of our abilities to take it on the road.
The Fringe is a great opportunity for us to gain wider media exposure.
I am seeking to make new contacts with agents, new comedians and event planners. Along the way I will be writing a blog to document the experience.
Other superstars are expected to join the fray, news of this will be published when confirmed. I'm hoping the recognition of TV stars within the shows will help with attracting the bookings.
We've always been able to throw in surprises (like Ross Kemp!), so the five Edinburgh shows will be no different.
A Brief History
Over the last 12 months, we have been developing the Trial format, with numerous shows for various audiences and in different venues.
ThisIsYourTrial is probably what you'd expect it to be.
One or three people from the group, are put on Trial before their friends and colleagues to face 'charges'. Friends are brought forward to provide evidence and witness statements.
Comedians play the roles of Judge, Prosecutor and Defence counsel. It is like a comedy roast but far more creative, interactive and less insulting!
So far, we have done shows for different types of event:
- Birthday parties
- A stag party
- Work parties
- Charity fundraisers
- Promotional events
- End of season sports event
- Christmas parties

We have introduced a cabaret element to our shows, with music and magic to supplement the comedy mayhem. There is continuous development of the ideas behind our shows, with each of the individuals that has been involved bringing new material and ideas into the fold.
We have made all sorts of plans and ideas towards making this possible as a viable business.
These include a series of promotional shows in London for up-and-coming recording artists. The shows will be filmed and put on a dedicated You-Tube channel to help with the artists' own promotions. This is one business model for us to explore.
Another is to concentrate on the corporate market. We can provide excellent bespoke social events for company away-days and training weeks.
There is also the development of a TV format which is currently with a production company and in negotiations with a broadcaster.
What We Need
We need your support to equip us for the trip.
This starts simply with money for travel, accommodation, props, marketing and fees for comedians.
But please also consider bookings for the shows.
- Do you know anyone in Scotland?
- Do you know anyone who is about to celebrate a birthday or a stag party?
- Do you organise the work Xmas party?
- Do you want a party arranged in London?
All of these people might want to book a show with us. You can help us to find them. Bookings for shows are what will set up the future of this service and business.
We seek a relatively modest financial injection to ensure all these steps are made smoothly.
Many comedians go to Edinburgh seeking reviews to advance their careers by putting on free shows to practice their craft and find new audiences at considerable personal cost.
Our model is different. We are selling shows. So we can give good professional comedians a 'leg-up' onto a new stage just when they need it.
Your support of this project will directly boost the careers of all the comedians involved. This is another great way to support the creative arts.
We are going to turn this into a business that will employ those funny people. Keeping them safe and warm, off the streets and out of your way!!
But remember, you can always come see them in their natural habitat, on stage, in court, with you as part of the audience or even the accused.
Book one of our shows now at the special Kickstarter reward prices!
The rewards set out here invite you to become part of our future. We will not forget anyone who comes to our shows. We hope to remain in contact with our supporters as this business develops and grows.
You can be one of the first to add the ThisIsYourTrial experience to your own events, or come see one of our future shows.
Our events are all about telling stories and there is one big story yet to be told. You can become a special feature of that story. Like a Fairy Godmother. And you can look back when you're older, telling your grandchildren that you were part of making ThisIsYourLaugh happen, way back before it even went to Edinburgh!
Risks and challenges
Taking a show to Edinburgh is not easy. For one thing, it is in another country and in Scotland they practice law differently!
There are hundreds of shows and comedians going every year so we have lots of competition for attention.
The challenge for us is to have 5x distinct shows, well prepared and carefully written for 5x different audiences on 5x consecutive days.
We also need those 5x shows pre-booked with audiences.
There is one show already provisionally booked. But there is still the challenge to find takers for the other 4x spaces.
We do still have plenty of time to do that. This Kickstarter campaign is part of that process.
I have already made some good contacts with Edinburgh-based comedians and people with sales experience to help find the bookings. They are currently working to find the right kind of businesses to approach.
Even if we don't find those advance bookings, we have a back-up plan to improvise shows with audiences brought in from the festival. This is a big part of the Fringe experience.
Each of the shows needs to be special, memorable and most importantly, funny. From now until August, we will be doing preview shows to work on the jokes, sharpen up the format, and for the comedians to practice the shows so that they are tight and ready for Edinburgh.
The support from all the comedians who have been involved so far and are also going to Edinburgh in August will help gather the press attention we need. In addition, we already have the backing of Kate Copstick, one of the most respected comedy critics for the Scotsman.
So with your help and if everything we have worked towards goes somewhere close to plan, I'm pretty sure we'll be ok and will have left Edinburgh making people laugh and remembering who we are.
