About this project
**** June 17th Update**** Hello all! Less than 48 hours to go on our "Dog Man - The Dick Russell Story" kickstarter campaign, and thanks to ALL your AMAZING support, we now have the means to finish the film in a MUCH BIGGER WAY than we could have otherwise done on our own.
Please see the wonderful article on the cover of today's "Business Section" in The Advocate, which offers some more back story on the project.
In the meantime, please continue to spread the word…
…as there is still time to support the project!
All the best, thanks again, and we look forward to getting you your rewards asap!

*** June 9th Update*** We're pleased to report that last Saturday's day of "dog-loving fun" in support of "Dog Man - The Dick Russell Story" was a huge success! Thanks to our awesome sponsors, we had a great turnout, and many dollars were pledged to the project, getting us that much closer to achieving our new goal of $36K. See the video in Update #4 for a quick recap of the event!
As we near the finish line, consider MANAGING your pledge, as a few dollars more might get you one of our NEWEST PLEDGE LEVELS, including THE PERFECT MUTT ($165)…numbered, limited edition signed relief prints of the future poster artwork) or THE CHIHUAHUA ($225)…a two-hour "Doggie photo shoot" with you and/or your "best friends" (up to 3 pups).
Thanks for ALL YOUR SUPPORT, and please continue to spread the word about the project…
...as there are only 9 days to go!

** June 1st update ** - Thanks to a hefty boost from our new Executive Producer, Parker Zehnder (aka ZEHNDER COMMUNICATIONS), and Associate Producer, Jennifer Nicole Hack, we are now off to a great start to meet our new goal of $36K! For all you local folks, please join us tomorrow between 11am-2pm at the field across from Zoe's Kitchen in Baton Rouge (Perkins Road location) for a day of "dog-loving fun" to support the project! Also, we've added a new pledge level THE CHIHUAHUA, which includes a TWO-HOUR SESSION (studio or outdoor) with up to 3 dogs, courtesy of FUR LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY. Visit furlovephotography.com to see examples of their work!
* See the following article in Scene Magazine's "Scene Weekly"!
** Memorial Day Update ** Hello all! Thank you for all of your amazing support thus far…you wouldn't believe the amazing stories that have come from starting this kickstarter campaign. Not only has it given us additional resources to make a better film, but it has provided us with SO MUCH ADDITIONAL CONTENT we would not have had otherwise.
That said, it's becoming OBVIOUS that with over 20 days to go, WE SET OUR SIGHTS WAY TOO LOW!
To support this effort to raise more funds, we've created some new awesome prizes, like THE PERFECT MUTT, which features numbered, limited edition letterpress prints of the portrait artwork from the future "DOG MAN - The Dick Russell Story" movie poster!
By the way, a huge "thanks" to Smiley Anders of The Advocate in Baton Rouge, LA, who wrote in his column today (5/28/12)...
Richie and the Dog Man team...
In 2010, Richie Adams and a group of filmmakers began documenting the life of Dick Russell, a world renowned dog trainer living in Baton Rouge, LA.
Dick Russell trained dogs professionally for over 50 years and it's estimated that he trained more than 30 thousand dogs in the Baton Rouge community by way of his 6-week basic obedience classes, of which he taught 3 classes per week, every 6 weeks, for the last 30 years of his life.

"There are people (like Dick Russell) that dedicate their lives to single purposes, that do many, many, many things unselfishly, that touch the lives of so many different people that they become legendary."
- Dr. Craig Alberty
Veterinarian, Baton Rouge, LA
Dick Russell was an innovator.
Dick introduced training methods that were accepted nationally and internationally on how to make dog training easier, more gentle and more rational.

An important thing to consider with the Kickstarter funding model.
$18,000 is the minimum we need to finish DOG MAN "The Dick Russell Story." However, the more money we raise - the further our project can go. It is IMPORTANT TO KNOW that if we DO NOT reach the full amount of $18,000 within the 42 days, Kickstarter will return all pledged money to the backers and NOTHING will go to DOG MAN "The Dick Russell Story." So please send what you can, help us reach the $18,000, so we can share this man's story with the world!
Thanks to all our Sponsors thus far!
What exactly will the money be spent on?
Our Kickstarter campaign was created to raise the necessary funds to "finish the film." These funds will be used for, among other things:
• More INTERVIEWS and FOOTAGE (e.g., We are traveling to Orlando on April 20th, 2012 for our second visit to the IACP conference to promote our project and hopefully secure a few more amazing stories about Dick Russell)
• More TIME SPENT EDITING (e.g., Matt LaFont [our Editor] & our Intern Squadron [aka "The B-Roll Patrol"] combing thru our estimated 300+ hours of footage to refine a powerful final cut of the film)
• More time spent making MOTION GRAPHICS (e.g., cool animation applied to still photos, that might otherwise simply fade up and fade down)
• More MUSIC (e.g., More originally scored music by our composer, Chris Roy, to bring the story to life)
Can you exceed the goal?
YES WE CAN! The more funds we raise, the easier it will be for us to "finish the film" and "make it better and better" (i.e., In the spirit of "you get what you pay for"…if we are able to raise more money than our current goal of $18,000, then we will have that much MORE MONEY to put on the screen to MAKE IT A BETTER FILM…which is our commitment)!
Can contributors increase pledges once they have been made?
Absolutely! If you have already contributed, and are signed in to your account, then instead of a green “Back This Project” button on our page, there should be a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click that, and you can enter a new amount or choose a new incentive!
Can I give one of these incentives as a gift?
Gifting an incentive is a wonderful idea! After the campaign, when we message you for details on your incentives, you can then give us the information for the person you wish to gift.
Rewards that come with Dog Man "The Dick Russell Story" Merchandise.
* For items shipped in the U.S., all shipping costs are covered within your pledged amount. For International backers, please include an additional $10 along with your pledged amount to account for additional shipping costs.
How can you contact us?
You can reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org – feel free to email us with any questions or comments you may have! Given the large volume of emails we may receive, please give us a few days to respond!
