The Watchmaker is an innovative third-person game, developed in Unreal Engine 4 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One that mixes puzzles and adventure in a challenging series of levels full of riddles, action and mystery. In the game, you are Alexander, who is trapped in a steampunk world, similar to a large clock mechanism, where your mission is to not only repair it, but to discover why you are there and who has sabotaged it. But not everything is so simple. Alexander is aging quickly due to the collapsed time, the fight is not just against the saboteur: it's against time itself.

Alexander has a routine, to maintain his precious clock tower every day, adjusting mechanisms, oiling the gears and polishing up to the smallest piece. For years he has only lived for that purpose, until one day he is awakened by a mysterious voice. This disembodied voice alerts him that something is wrong: an unknown entity has sabotaged his precious tower and this has caused time to go crazy. Consequently, Alexander starts aging very fast and has a limited time to fix it. Guided by the voice, he must walk the halls of the tower in search of the nameless entity and discover the mysteries of the tower and its past.
Alexander lives day after day given to his great work: a massive clock tower. He preserves its mechanisms and leaves them impeccable. One day a stranger sabotages his work and makes the time go mad making him age extremely fast. Alexander is perfectionist, obsessive and meticulous. Each of the pieces of his beloved tower work perfectly. He is able to leave everything behind for it, even his wife.
“The Voice” was trapped deep in the clock tower. For years it has been traveling through it’s levels, looking for the bastard who stole his body. Until one day he finds Alexander who becomes his ally to fulfill his plans. “The Voice” is intelligent, cunning and convincing...
Alexander is obsessive and addicted to work so he sleeps very little. But when he does, he dreams of a beautiful woman with a sad countenance named Alice, who seems very familiar. Who could this woman be?
The Despicable Saboteur is trapped in the tower just like Alexander. He is astute, intelligent and his intentions are not good. He has been sabotaging Alexander's tower without him realizing it. What could his purpose be?
The Watchmaker is a puzzle adventure game. The player takes the role of Alexander, who must solve the intricate mechanisms that are presented to him with the help of his magnetic glove, with which you can manipulate objects at will. Alexander ages very quickly, so players will have to make decisions and act as fast as they can. The inside of the tower is full of floating platforms, giant moving gears and tight paths for Alexander to navigate around this steampunk world. Many puzzles are scattered around the tower, waiting for you to complete them, but watch out, their guardians may not be happy to see you tinkering around.
In The Watchmaker music plays a very important role. Apart from having an aesthetic function and giving atmosphere to the world, it works as an additional indicator of Alexander's age. The music changes depending on the age range in which the character is. If he is young, the music is much more energetic and lively, however, when Alexander is old, the music is calmer and grimmer.
We are a small but ambitious study of 7 people at the end of the world. The Watchmaker is our first big project for PCs and consoles. For 2 years, we had been developing The Watchmaker with only two people, spending our savings and doing other jobs to finance our game. Six months ago, we acquired resources through a private investment in the company that allowed us to hire a team of talented people and pay for the services we needed for the game (music, voice acting, sound, among others). This has helped us to advance a lot in development, achieving a playable demo and pushing the game to 70% of its development. Additionally, we have a contract with 1C Publishing to be able to market the PC game around the world when it comes out, but they are not funding development. That is why we need your help, because we are running out of resources to maintain our team and we need a little extra push to finish it for consoles. Help us make this dream come true and bring The Watchmaker to each one of you throughout the world.
Risks and challenges
We have had a little less than three years of intense work where everyday there is a certain feeling, which shapes the happiness of making a game like The Watchmaker but also helplessness because everything is so difficult.
Our risks are huge, we are running out of money, our team was able to grow and it’s even a bigger priority to keep it, so we want to do it because the quality of our work deserves it. In our country there are few companies that are working in games of this size and by far we are the company with fewer resources. Mainly because the government provides very little support to our industry. Private investors, not knowing the business, don’t take risks in video game companies because they prefer to invest in markets already explored, not to mention our personal resources.
The challenge of making a puzzle adventure videogame is something new for us. While it is not our first game, it is undoubtedly the most difficult we have developed, and it is because we had to experiment with a lot of new things, such as Alexander's age change. The age change involves many aspects such as the character's skin, hair, animations, music and his physical characteristics, all of them have to adapt to the changes.
Creating a puzzle game that challenges the player and makes you feel satisfied to solve it was another big challenge that we had to face, which is why we designed a lot of tricky puzzles so they are not so easy to solve. In addition, we created a series of enemies, all designed to belong to each level, which have a different style and difficulty, as each one represents one of the characters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
