Hi Backers,

As more bells land in your hands, there are some FAQs that we thought it would be helpful to answer for all backers:

1. The "Titanium Classic” bell

- Some of you have mentioned you have received a Classic instead of a Ti bell. In fact the Classic comes in Titanium as well as the four Aluminium models. See the image below which shows a “silver” aluminium bell on left and Titanium on right. You can check the model number on yours to be sure. Bells with 1200...K are Titanium.

Both Classic: Aluminium on left, Titanium on right.
Both Classic: Aluminium on left, Titanium on right.

- Also with Ti, there are two designs: Ti White (we introduced this as a stretch goal) and Ti “Black". The colour refers to the mount colour, not the ringer. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

2. Unwanted rattle coming from bell

When the bell is overtightened, the screw may get too close to the ringer and cause an unwanted tapping noise. Please ensure the bell is firm on your bar BUT NO TIGHTER. See below for what it should look like. If this doesn’t solve your ringing problem, you have a faulty bell. Please follow the procedure set out in previous update for getting a replacement.

Tight enough, no more.

3. Faulty bells

- As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, and as has been evident from the comments, there was a problem in production that caused an error rate with a small proportion of bells. This meant that the bell gave a thud rather than rang out. We wanted to show you the difference between a good and bad bell.

Replay with sound
Play with
sound

- Of course, there will be very minor differences in sound between working bells, but if the bell sounds like the bad one in this video, then it is faulty and we will replace. Just send us a video file link in a DM (e.g. DropBox, iCloud, GoogleDrive etc) of the faulty bell.

4. Sizing

- The small bell only fits bar diameter 22.2mm.

- The large bell includes shims to it can fits bars larger than that up to 31.8mm. The shims are located underneath the grey tray, tucked inside the circular extrusion.

Hope this helps for those with the queries above.

Cheers, Sam

My bells arrived earlier this week. Backer #3,255. They look neat. Not yet had the time to fit any. The couple I tried out of the box made a nice 'ding' noise.

@fabio: we have had contact with you on the 27th Oct where we gave you tracking details. You have not contacted us via DM since. Now that you've alerted us, we've had a look, and can see from the tracking details that the parcel is in some sort of loop at the airport. We will investigate and provide a solution via direct message (DM).
@DG: I've checked our DM and emails - we have not received a video from you since we responded to your inquiry on 19 Oct. Please check your sent items, then send a link to a video via DM.
      Thanks.

Still no bells. Received tracking number over 3 weeks ago and bells should have arrived by ten days. There appears to be no direct way to contact Knog about this so have left messages on the Kickstarter website. Tracking number useless as it stopped tracking 2 weeks ago with the message "delivery shortly" If they don't sort this out quickly, I shall be demanding my money back.

      @Aaron - 11978K is small brass.
@Jeff Darmawan - pls send video via direct message. Attachments aren't possible so you'll need to send a link to the file (eg via dropbox, iCloud, GoogleDrive).
@Wai Yong Chin - we will get in touch directly.

      hello!! 11978K is Titanium Verson??

    40. Pete Tyler on

Just fitted my 4 bells. wasn't sure which was alloy or Titanium, now I see the series numbers on the box is different, how can you tell from the bell?? Fiddly to fit and don't work too well on MTB bars, did no one think about the gear and brake shifters. And the shims are either too big or too small, good old insulating tape to the rescue. They are OK now, not over impressed. Expensive and look a bit fragile. Have kept my old bells, I reckon they will be back on soon. Sorry Knog, could do better!!

      Hello,
I was very happy about the bell and thought when ordering that I would attach something special to the bike but the opposite was the case. The valence leaves something to be desired and in the city one will not hear the bell .... it is simply too quiet. After the disappointment I have then auctioned them directly at Ebay .... sorry again to the buyer!
For the everyday use I can not recommend it in any case.

    42. C.w. Lee on

it seems I got the bad version bell...
will send video to you after recording later

Glad to have received my Oi. It's great, but in adjusting it so it wasn't too tight I've lost the bolt. Where can I get a replacement?

    44. Missing avatar

      Wai Yoong Chin on

I bought 6 bells (4 titanium, 1 copper and 1 brass) for ourselves and family. None of them fit the handlebars despite putting the shims on. The bars have a diameter of 23.2mm, so according to your instructions, they should fit as it is larger than 22.2mm. I would like replacement bells that we could actually use as these bells were not cheap. I am unable to test the bells when mounted but they seem to sound ok when hand held.

      Daniel on

      Finally received the bell.
and it rings nicely (I am one of the lucky ones apparently) but it is not loud enough for noisy environments.
And the execution is terrible (flimsy plastic and cheap looking springs).
It is by far the cheapest looking (but quite expensive in fact) component on my Ti bike.
This is an example of a good idea and a good initial design, wasted because of a terrible implementation and choice of materials. Bye Knog
