What's the deal?
Hello! We are honored you checked in with our 2014 subscription campaign. King Bone Press has been publishing independent comic books for over 6 years. In 2014, we aim to release many more unique and exciting books into the universe. This campaign will feature 5 of the books we need your help publishing.
More on that later, let's talk about the books!
Why do a subscription plan?
King Bone Press is comprised of Bobgar Ornelas and Jon Westhoff. When Jon joined the company in 2009, the vision was simple. Two friends, making comics. That sentiment hasn't changed, but in bringing so many of our friends in to make more comics, there is an increased amount of overhead costs. By selling our books with the increased exposure of kickstarter, it gives us an opportunity to get you products we are confident you will enjoy and it helps us pay the costs to print and ship the books, without going into debt.
Also, being a small operation, it can be difficult to ship multiple orders, so our hope is that by grouping together we can save some time and expenses.
Retail cost will be $30 for all 5 books. We are offering the surprise print as a thank you for your trust at no extra cost. That's all there is to it. No trinkets or do-dads or other add-ons this time. Just comics. Sweet Sweet Comics.
What if I don't want all the books?
Man, you ask a lot of questions. If you only want a single book, simply wait for when(IF?!?) we are able to list them on the site individually. Sign up for our mailing list there, to keep updated.
Where's my money going?
Printing all the books plus the incentives/shipping estimates should be around $2700. This includes our cost of webhosting for 3 years, as well. With estimated KS fees and shipping costs(depending on international orders), we are setting the estimate at $3500. We have set the goal below that in order to ensure we reach the goal. We appreciate every dollar and everyone who helps spread the word. We do not believe it is the sole purpose of crowdfunding to fully fund a product that we intend to sell later at a profit. If we do not reach $3500, we will seek other avenues to raise the remaining funds and we guarantee the books will be printed, barring major illness or act of god. Your pledges will help us get the books printed, send out review copies and help us be able to sell the books to shops at a discount rate without taking a loss. A percentage of all books printed will be distributed to the hard working creators who have helped us bring this book to you.
King Bone Press is a two man operation. We need your help, but, it is up to us as a company to sling these books, not expect our fans to cover all the cost. This is the belief of King Bone Press and is not meant to be targeted at any other crowd funding. We only state this because we believe in being honest when people are helping us. Thank you so much for reading our Kickstater and we hope you will contribute.
King Bone Press would like to thank Discount Comic Book Service and their First Light Program for their continued support. If you are an independent creator looking to solicit your comics through DCBS, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
A majority of the books featured in this kickstarter will be debuting at the Appleseed convention in beautiful Fort Wayne, IN. Appleseed is an intimate, creator focused convention and will be held May 17th-18th, 2014. This show is very special to us, as it represented one of our first conventions we attended as KBP. Please click the logo above for more info.
"Appleseed Comic Con was founded with a singular purpose in mind: celebrate comics and the comics community. Comics is an art form, and it is an art form that is supported by an incredible community. To that end, we have made the art of comics, and the creators responsible, the focus of the show. Another big part of comics is the shopping experience—the thrill of the hunt. In order to serve those fans who are on the hunt for that one back issue, that Gen-1 Starscream figure that has been haunting them since childhood, or that new game they’ve been itching to try, Appleseed also involves as many local retailers as can participate and a number regional retailers as well. The comics community is an amazing and wonderful thing, and it is Appleseed’s primary goal to get fans new and old to come out to experience that community and build lasting bonds with creators, great retailers, and most importantly, their fellow fan."
Risks and challenges
There little risk involved in this project. As with most Kickstarters, we ask for your patience when it comes to shipping (as there’s only two of us), but you can be sure that we personally ensure the quality and safety of every order before it goes out.
And most importantly, all of our backers will be updated all the way.
