I am a classically trained sculptor based in Paris. My husband Denys is a Call of Cthulhu Keeper and he often asks me to help him make props for his campaigns. He is the one who made me discover the role playing game. Denys is also a screen writer and a bit infographic designer. So he is helping me a lot to elaborate and decide this proposal. I can say that is my art director !
Because he and his players enjoy and appreciate using the props & handouts I create so much, we thought others would too!
But we can't do this project alone... So, if you would like to own a fine-art quality prop, and tailor made handouts, you can help us create some great props by participating in this crowdfunding campaign!
We wanted to offer new props for The Masks of Nyarlathotep even before doing the successful Sedefkar Simulacrum crowdfunding in 2015. But we knew this campaign needed something special and we wanted to take our time and acquire the experience of a successful crowdfunding before launching such an ambitious project.

Why the crowdfunding ?
We need funds to pay for :
• the casting of the sculptures (it will be done in Greece by a professional and renown caster).
• the production of the pendant by a professional founder.
• materials and handwork for the boxes.
• shipping costs.
The 5000€ goal should allow us to begin production.
If you intend to run a campaign or if you already played the Masks of Nyarlathotep, you probably already know why you are here. Maybe you will enjoy running it again with quality props, if you don't and you intend to do it, you should be aware that their may be some SPOILERS AHEAD, but maybe you could be interested by doing it with your current keeper and tell him about our Kickstarter.
In other cases, we propose some quality props that may interest you if you like Lovecraft, or just fantasy sculpture and objects. Alternatively, you can even inscribe yourself to play the campaign during the next summer with Mr Shiny, and pledge for the Solar Eclipse (scroll below until "The Eclipse Event" to read the specifics).
We wanted to propose some sculpture that could help Keepers to enhance the gaming experience. The Sculpture created have for most of them never been proposed before, but we mainly thought about what they could bring to the narrative. They are designed to help the keeper to move the story forward and to help the keeper to give to the vilains something memorable, that will trigger the investigators to fear them.
The inverted ankhs pendant are the symbol of the Black Pharaoh Brotherhood. There is one for the Egyptian Brotherhood and one from the British Brotherhood, thanks to the 10K stretch Goal. Imagine a keeper who wears one of them under his (or her) shirt and who disclose it in character as if it was unintended while the investigators are interacting with a seemingly unrelated NPC… like the captain of the ship carrying them across the Mediterranean . Imagine the possibilities of the situation. Now the investigators know that anyone can be part of the brotherhood and that they are in for troubles… Alternatively, we hope that even if it is a peculiar symbol, people could want it for it's oddity and beauty.
The two inverted Ankhs we proposed are designed by Delphes and created with the help of Emmanuelle Schluck a french jeweler who works for Haute Couture houses such as Céline, Givenchy, Jean Vivier, etc. Be aware that he inverted Ankh shown in the picture and in the video is a prototype. The final product will have a more black finish.
We will propose the inverted Ankh either alone (because we wanted to propose it at a reasonable price) with three possible add-ons : a Metal Alliage Chain, a Silver Chain, and a jewel box that will be engraved on the inside with a special monogram of the Penhew Fondation if our second strech gaol is reached (it may give a more dramatic reveal when investigators find it in a scene of the London Chapter). The chain will be 70cm long (because then it will fit to everyone) and it must be long enough to make it possible to hide it under your clothes.
The Egyptian Ankh was inspired by a Egyptian low relief found during my research. The British Ankh is of course more related to the designs of the period.
You can either choose between the two ankhs, or purchase the second ankh as an add-on to your pledge for 33€.
The Ring of Cthugha
The Ring can be purchased as an add-on for €65. My first idea was to make a ring of Chtugha in gold and black using enamel for a glossy dark black. First I wanted to create a ring with an hidden pattern, like the reversible rings used for secret cults – but it proved very expensive to produce because of the mechanical process involved.
Then I thought of the old nobility rings : a ring that could be used as a seal… The Chtugha pattern should be an engraved stamp that would be difficult to discover at the first glimpse because it is a negative drawing. It would be easier for an initiated person to recognize it.
Plus, you could use the ring to seal envelops with wax or even to make a print on a soft material as clay.
I hope you will appreciate it. The ring of chthuga could be a secret sign for the Lovecraftian community!
Their description in the book : "cast or grown from an unidentifiable alien metal" makes room for interpretation. We tried to give them a lovecraftian flavor, as if they were somewhat organic. They appear in several places in the book, and they should mostly be used by powerful cultists. The investigators may even put their hand on a set. A keeper could certainly use them as an accessory with a lot of benefit for a dramatic scene if he holds them when a sorcerer is on sight of an investigator, while chanting in an ancien forgotten tongue.
The sculpture of the Twin Scepters is cast in polyurethane. it is a little more than one foot long. After the sculpture is cast in Greece, it will be hand-painted by me - Delphes. Each sculpture will be one of a kind. Each will have its own certificate of authenticity. With your investment you will get a unique artifact, handmade in a traditional way.
My interpretation of the mirror of Gal is inspired by ancient Egyptian artefacts, but I mixed that with a babylonian flavor. Mainly, I wanted it to be deeply rooted in the Mythos. The frame is asymetrical but not it way that makes it obvious at first glance. Since it is intended to be used by a practitioner of magic, it should be portable so it has a handle. This item can be stolen from its current owner by the investigators, but at the risk of provoking the wrath of a powerful and unrelenting enemy. Is there a better way to tempt them into such foolishness than by showing them such a prop ?
It will be cast in polyurethane and when assembled it will be a full 37 centimeters long (around 14.5 inches) and 19 cm wide (7,5 inches). After it is cast in Greece, it will be hand-painted by me to make it unique with glimpses of bronze reflection on the edges. The mirror itself while aged with spotting is actually not made of glass so it is safe to allow even excited and clumsy player to take him, it won't break. I complete the frame by hand with a special finish. That's why it's a limited offer for now, if I want to send them on schedule.
This a copy of an antique egyptian chest from the Louvres collection, it will only be proposed for the Deluxe Tier and there will be only 20 copies created. The box will be built by Jaques Beillard, a french carpenter and cabinetmaker.
Jacques works on spaces arrangements for Parisian independent bookstores. For this box, he will use 45 degree cutting insert and poplar plywood and pruce, ideal materials for both structural soundness and lightness.
I will be doing the ageing process and painting myself.
The chest is big enough to contain everything related to the campaign : props from this kickstarter of course, but also different edition of the book (or books), material, etc. Dimensions are : 27,5 cm x 45,5 cm x 27 cm ( or 10 x 18 x 11 inches).

The same team that brought the Penultimate trip live gaming to the Horror on the Orient Express Kickstarter and the premiere Gen Con long-form event, “The Blood Red Fez” will lead 4-6 players on an unforgettable trip through the entire Masks of Nyarlathotep. Using music, sound effects, lighting, and the Deluxe set props of Props of Nyarlathotep, they will play through the campaign around Gen Con 50 this August in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The adventure starts Sunday 13 August at the Crowne Plaza Union Station in a private meeting room. This hotel, formerly a working passenger railway station, is the perfect setting for this globetrotting campaign. Gaming will be all day Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Then after Gen Con, the action picks up again in St. Louis, Missouri. Here the final chapter will be played out. Why St. Louis? On Monday 21 August 2017, the first cross continental eclipse of the sun since 1918 will reach totality in St. Louis at 1:16 PM.
The price does not include transportation, meals, or housing, but hotel rooms at special rates will be offered to players. Also, the gaming staff can offer some limited transportation from Indianapolis to St.Louis. Snacks and beverages will be provided as well.
Players should expect to arrive Saturday night 12 August in Indianapolis (or by the latest Sunday morning at 9:00 AM) and depart from St. Louis after 5:00 PM Monday 21 August.
This will be an epic roleplaying event that truly will never be offered again (at least with a solar eclipse near Gen Con ) !
Note this is in no way affiliated nor sponsored by Gen Con.
You can contact Mr. Shiny for further informations here : email@example.com
People who pledge for Brothers from another country and above can add €3 to their current pledge in order to inscribe to The Solar Eclipse event (message me if you do).
The Eye of Light and Darkness bas-relief has already been proposed so it can only be purchased as an add-on. Just add €70 to your pledge if you want to add it. A questionary will be send after the campaign to handle the add-ons. So don't worry, it won't be forgotten.
The Eye measures 7" x 4" (18 cm x 11 cm), and is split down on the middle, in two parts.
A lot of thought went into the making of this item. It is supposed to be a piece of the red pyramid, the first true smooth-sided pyramid located in Dashur, built to repulse the Black Pharaoh. But this is puzzling, if the pyramid is smooth-sided, there shouldn't be any carving on it. So I did some research; the red pyramid was not always red, it used to be cased with limestone but only a few of these stones now remain at the corner of the construction. I imagined that the Eye of Light and Darkness was hidden somewhere behind the limestone and when the limestone fell apart, the relief was revealed but still covered with a layer of coating composed of small stones brought by the desert. I tried to reproduce the results, the reddish aspect and the effects of time. Thinking of the reddish granite stone beneath the limestone, burning and drying under the sun for ages, I knew then how to show the burning secret of the red pyramid covered by the smooth limestone.
Here are the stretch goals that can be unlocked during this campaign. With your help, we will be able to offer new content and original creations, some as add-ons other will be add with no charge to your pledges.
The shipping fees will be added during your pledge, but in some cases (when there's a lot oh heavy add-on), we may have to ask you to complete the shipping fees. Every shipment will be insured, because last time we had some loss, and they can be quite costly in the end.
All packages will be sent from France. Be aware that you may have to pay for custom charges at reception. Note that when dealing with heavy objects like wooden boxes and sculptures, shipping fees can be hefty, which we regrettably have no control over.
Much effort and dedication has gone into putting these specialty items together. This crowdfunding opportunity may be the only way to acquire such one-of-a-kind props as they will most likely never be offered commercially again. If you are a true fan of the Masks of Nyarlathotep and wish to enhance your gaming experience, this is a truly unique opportunity to do so.
Risks and challenges
The experience from the Sedefkar Simulacrum project helped us to understand some principles.
First, Communication is key, of course. Second, always defend quality before quantity. Also, a kickstarter is not about adding a gazillion stretch goals, but realistic ones, and to try first to deliver the goods on time.
We are fully aware that unexpected delays can always occur, but we are confident that we will deliver your rewards on schedule.
Our only foreseeable issue might be if the demand for the props exceeds our estimated expectations. In that event, we would change the completion deadline for any new orders. Of course, we would honor first come, first served so all the original orders would ship first, per the current deadline.
We will send updates at least once a month until completion so that you are kept in the loop at all times. We feel that, as pledge contributors, you are our collaborators and you should have a voice in the decision making.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
