We are raising funds in order to pay for all of the facets of production of this animated short. We put a great deal of effort into illustrating and writing for the cartoon and Tad Catalano is the animator that we have chosen to bring it all to life. Our goal is simple: to be able to pay him for his time in completing our first episode.
We are fortunate to know all of the creative professionals who will help shape the overall aesthetic of our project at this stage. We have a few wonderfully talented friends who have offered their hand in scoring, sound engineering as well as helping with voiceovers. With this being a rather large production we have been sure to cover all aspects needed to complete this episode. In many ways, the length of time it has taken us to get to this point has been beneficial, as it has shown us ways in which we need to refine the project and our approach.
We have been taking our time and delicately painting each background so that the cartoon appears visually stunning. Our intent is for the experience of the show to be not only funny & engaging for the viewer, but also to mimic some of the effects of going to a fine arts gallery.
What exactly is Hillbilly Philosopher about?
The story we have been developing and would like to tell is a comedy with a lot of heart & an educational dimension. It revolves around a central character named Floyd (mid 20's) who lives in the small, southern, isolated town of Rodenberg, TX.
One day, during his normal routine, something not-so-average happens to Floyd. After visiting his best friend Butts who somehow teaches kindergarten art, Floyd goes on a walk across a bridge of railroad tracks and is almost killed due to a fast-approaching train and a family of rabid possums.
During his near-death experience and after, Floyd is stricken with a series of questions about his life and the town in which he grew up. He begins to think maturely for the first time. As he enters a period of existential questioning, Floyd realizes that he must leave this dead-end town with his best friend, Butts.
From this starting point, the two buddies begin their journey across the United States and, ultimately (if we get the chance!), the world. They meet interesting people, scientists, philosophers, crazy people, scam artists and find themselves in all sorts of enlightening, funny, awkward and sometimes dangerous situations along the way.
We would love to develop this as a series & take these lovable, confused characters to all of the people and places they deserve :)
We are excited to share our first episode with all of you this fall.

Risks and challenges
There are certainly risks involved with undertaking this type of project. However, we have worked on it for so long and have already gone through so many struggles to get it where it is now--financial, personal, etc.--that we simply cannot and will not stop working on this until it reaches the fruitful place that we know it can.
As with any creative project, there will more than likely be a few obstacles we may come across. We will be up front with any of these issues if they do arise, such as: any sort of delay in being able to finish before the given release date if something happens, whether personal or technical, or perhaps if we decide to make a change or two to the final edit to make it an overall better project. It is our goal to provide our backers with updates on the progress along the way, no matter what. You will always be in the loop.
We have both learned a lot about working with others, getting tasks accomplished with a high degree of quality and the obstacles we face with pitching this to a network (and maintaining it once--fingers crossed--we get it on one). We have been in and around the world of performance, art, writing and other creative entrepreneurs for several years now and have learned every step of the way how to stay positive and smart with our approach. We are always seeking advice and growing.
Fortunately, our professional network has expanded since we first began working on the concept and we have sacrificed so much to keep it alive. We feel ready to take on the responsibility of using our talents and creative ambitions for a serious career. This is truly the only creative endeavor that we have both felt such an intense and driven connection to, and we never want to give up on it. Your funding would help us tremendously.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
