Set in Palm Springs 1958, SHANGRI-LA is the story about Hollywood “it girl”, Vera Thompson who has been isolated to the desert with her mob boyfriend. While at another one of his clandestine parties, Vera meets a young ex-cop, Morris, who has returned to his hometown of Palm Springs to follow a lead on his partner’s murder.
ENVER GJOKAJ - Playing "Morris Thorne"
We are thrilled to have Enver on board playing our male lead, Morris!
The Character: Recently fired from the LAPD for noncompliance (or as he would put it, "arguing with the Chief"), Morris is a young, novice ex-cop who hasn’t quite found his footing yet. Having just returned to his hometown of Palm Springs, we meet Morris as he follows up on a lead involving his partner’s murder. He discovers that the thread entangles not only the mob but also Hollywood’s biggest star, Vera Thompson. Oftentimes overly confident, and occasionally bluffing his way through certain situations, we’ll watch as the headstrong Morris learns how to be a detective the hard way.
Enver Gjokaj is known for his work as 'Agent Sousa' in Marvel's AGENT CARTER and as ‘Victor’ in Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE. His other television credits include THE WALKING DEAD, DEXTER, EXTANT, VEGAS, and LAW AND ORDER: SVU.
He has appeared in films including THE AVENGERS, COME AND FIND ME, and WOULD YOU RATHER. Onstage, Enver has been seen in productions including FIRE IN DREAMLAND at The Public Theater, ARMS AND THE MAN at The Old Globe, and THE CHERRY ORCHARD at the Huntington.
Enver will next appear in the new NBC pilot PRISM, and in the upcoming independent film 3022.

... THE FILM FUTURE IS FEMALE!
We’re not making it easy on ourselves, making a period film on a budget is a HUGE challenge. But if we reach our goal, we will be able to compensate our cast, crew, costumes, locations, post, etc... all of whom are doing massive favors already or are taking a crazy pay cut to help us make this film a reality.
We've budgeted $38K for our campaign because even IF we reach our goal, we have to factor in almost 8% of fees to Kickstarter and Amazon... so our budget is even lower than it looks. We're counting on you to get us to the finish line!
Risks and challenges
Over the course of a four day shoot, a lot can go wrong. Because we're relying on help and favors from professionals, we are completely prepared for the pit falls of production. After all, that's when it's the most fun! Getting creative. But no matter what, we're shooting this film. And it will come together the way it was meant to!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
