The game takes place on an island corrupted by a dark affliction that causes those that spend time on it to gradually lose their memories and sanity. Most of the inhabitants were former criminals or deranged individuals on the mainland that were sent to the island for forced rehabilitation. However, it has been decades since anyone has returned to retrieve them and many have completely lost their minds.
Your character is a descendent from a lineage of great holy priests. You were sentenced to death, but since it is sacrilege to burn a priest, you were exiled to the island instead. You start straight off the boat.
The game's storyline will be non-linear, allowing sequence breaking and choices when it comes to what order the player follows the story in.
The gameplay of Lunatic's Bane was influenced by a few Role Playing games such as Dark Souls, Diablo, Zelda, The Elder Scrolls series, and the Ys series.
Some other notable games that shaped the games creation: Fallout, Ultima, The Binding of Isaac, and Silent Hill.
The art and game world was influenced by the morbid and surreal universe of famous painter Zdzisław Beksiński's works, as well as old Slavic folklore and mythology.
The game is being made in Unity, so it will be playable on PC, Mac, and Linux. If successfully greenlit, it will be available on Steam.
Once the game is released, it will be $10. During alpha development the game is 30% off.
Lunatic's Bane is the first game that I'm working on by myself, on my own, from scratch. Its been such a thrill having full control over every aspect of development, this is a game I've been dreaming about for a long time.
However, I've been trying my best to support all of the development up to this point, but I can no longer finance it on my own. $5000 will be enough to cover my costs for the next 6 months at least, enough time to get the game into a very playable late alpha stage. All funds will go straight into the game and pledge rewards, including a fully fleshed soundtrack by Anadale to really nail down the atmosphere. Any amount over the goal will go towards stretch goals that push the content of the game even further, which you can look at below:
Designer, Artist, Programmer
Hey, I'm Dmitry and I've been passionate about game design practically my whole life. As a child I would create my own custom maps in games like Warcraft and Age of Empires, and my own little projects in RPG Maker 95 and 2000. Eventually I discovered Flash, where I began learning simple code to make pong clones and point and click adventure games.
I took a break from programming to pursue an interest in art and go to school to learn traditional painting. After many years of trying to find the right team to make games with, I've decided to shoulder all the weight of development on my own.
Making video games is my true passion, and I'll be doing this stuff for the rest of my life.

Risks and challenges
As mentioned above, I am working as a solo team for the game, so it can be difficult to exactly predict how long certain aspects of development might take. I hope that the game should be able to go into public alpha by Q4 2015, but there is the risk that it might be pushed a few months into 2016.
