UPDATE! THIS IS NOW ONLY 35 DOLLARS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE KICKSTARTER!!!!111onelven
Yes, Joanna is still coming!
Berserkon is the name of a gaming and geek convention that we hope to bring to Duluth Minnesota from the 24th-26th of May. This is our second attempt to gain funding for this endeavor, and we've got every confidence that our new budget will guarantee success.
How did we get our price so low?
Firstly, we had to trim the celebrity banquet off the schedule. Catering such a large affair was prohibitively expensive for our purpose. We've replaced it with a very exclusive cruise aboard the Vista Queen, where high-end backers will have the chance to hang out with our celebrity guests the evening of Friday, May 24th.
We've also saved thousands by changing the vendor policy. Where before we'd cover all the equipment, we now offer our vendors a certain amount of space in the hall, and give them the option of bringing their own stuff, going through the DECC to get any individual item(s) they'd like, or going through Berserkon for a package special on the original booth setup.
We had to change a few of our celebrity guests from sure things to stretch-goals, but you can still expect to see several members of ZOE in attendance, along with Cam Banks. We also have our friends from Thunder Bay's new 807 Improv coming our way to tickle your funny bone!
The DECC has also helped us to save money by rolling all of our gaming tables and chairs into the setup cost! This is a huge difference maker.
Last of all, VisitDuluth has provided us with lots of support. We have each and every one of the original Berserkon backers to thank for that - so thank you! It's your support that helped us gain the attention we needed to make that happen.
We are in touch with representatives from AEG, Fantasy Flight, Paizo, Privateer Press, and all of our terrific local game stores.
If we succeed, we'll be running a StarCity Games Invitational Qualifier for Magic: The Gathering, as other card and board gaming events like Munchkin, Pokemon, Descent, Catan. and more!
Our local Pathfinder Society venture captain has been extremely involved and enthusiastic about bringing a major event up to Duluth.
There will also be exclusive celebrity games using Pathfinder and Cortex rules.
Duluth is home to an absolutely awesome group of wargamers who play everything from Warhammer to 1942 to X-Wing.
The DECC is located smack in Duluth's Canal Park area, which means that it's surrounded by terrific restaurants and hotels, and is also practically next door to the Adventure Zone Arcade if you want to step away from the main convention to grab a quick game of miniature golf or laser tag. If you're in the mood for some quiet time, stroll on over to the lake walk for a little exercise with a view.
We've done all we can to make this as affordable and epic as possible. The rest is up to you! We've got one more chance to get our Berserkon!
$12,000 - Dungeon Bastard ACHIEVED!
Bill Cavalier will emerge from his stronghold and fly all the way to Duluth to put your skills to the test!
$12,500 - Custom dice to all backers - ACHIEVED!
We're going to have Chessex whip up some special Berserkon D6s, and every one of our backers at the 5 dollar level and above will receive one as a free bonus!
$13,100 - Artemis Bridge Simulator - ACHIEVED!
Michael Mesich will drive on up to run a free event that will let our
attendees experience the thrills and (simulated) dangers of manning a
starship as it battles and negotiates its way across the cosmos.
You might think you have The Right Stuff, and that's great kid, but
don't get cocky or you'll experience the Serenity of an Event Horizon!
Exercise teamwork and quick thinking and you'll have people saying "Kobayashi
$13,700 - Custom miniatures of T'ankwa - ACHEIVED
Pewter minis of our mascot half-orc will be given as rewards to all backers of 10 dollars or over, as well as being available for sale at the convention!
$14,500 - Upgrade to 4d6 + 10 hours of hell for Kevin
Instead of just a single six-sided die, we'll be giving all backers at 5 dollars and over a set of four d6s that combine to form a single awesome logo!
Also, I'll spend 7am to 5pm Monday, March 4th in a google hangout listening to the 10 hour version of "Taking the Hobbits to Isengard", and working on two 3rd party Pathfinder OGL books. Stop in and say hi! Say congrats! Say "ha ha!"!
Berserkon is proud to be served by the four following establishments, all of which have unique upsides and experiences to offer. Rooms will be available until April 24th. Mention Berserkon when making reservations to get the special rate.
Another big challenge for us is getting the word out to each and every gamer that there is who would want to make the trip - we are aiming for a very large convention here! As such, we've got a few fliers to print out and put up.
Risks and challenges
The DECC has really stuck with us through this, and we'll never find a better deal for a venue. VisitDuluth has provided generous support as well, and we need to reward their faith by proving that there is a market. A sponsorship proposal has also been submitted to Grandma's corporation, who will surely be keeping a close eye on our progress. Our first attempt generated some wonderful attention, so now we need to capitalize! We still hope you'll buy badges here and now instead of waiting for regular preregistration - it's a better price for you, and it makes a louder statement for us!
We've got a really excellent team put together who will be able to see this thing through in grand fashion. We've also been talking to Geek Prom about getting together for a joint venture of some sort! The faster and bigger our impact, the more time we'll have to line more and more stuff up for you guys.
With all of these excellent people and institutions at our backs, we are STILL poised to bring the upper Midwest a convention the likes of which it's never seen.
This is our big hail-Mary pass. If we can't get the convention funded at this level, it's unlikely to happen this year (if at all)!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes. We didn't tell you because Kevin spaced out mentioning that little detail. He is a dork.
Most people have two options - flying directly into Duluth, or landing in Minneapolis and taking a 3 hour shuttle or bus ride up North. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Here's the rub though; the Duluth International Airport costs significantly more to fly through for many (but not all!) compared to the Minneapolis International Airport. Be sure to factor in how much you could end up saving by taking the long way, minus whatever the shuttle or bus would cost!
