UPDATE:
We are so eternally GRATEFUL to you all for helping us reach our funding goal! You are now part of something historic that we've collaborated on together.
But the community building doesn't stop here. Let's keep going as the more people we reach the wider the Dalai Lama's message will be spread.
THE DALAI LAMA FILM is an intimate portrait of His Holiness as he approaches 80. It explores what he wants to accomplish with the rest of his current incarnation, and who will he reincarnate as the 15th Dalai Lama. He stated that this movie is part of his “Spiritual Will.”
“When people want to know, ‘Who was the previous Dalai Lama?’ they will look to these movies.” HH the Dalai Lama

In THE DALAI LAMA FILM His Holiness reveals his thoughts and feelings about reincarnating as the 15th Dalai Lama and shares his wisdom about how to keep a tranquil mind while facing the challenges of aging and death. It also addresses his current focus on science, Buddhism and interfaith dialogue.
23 years after making the ground-breaking film: COMPASSION in EXILE: The Story of the 14th Dalai Lama, award winning filmmaker, Mickey Lemle (RAM DASS FIERCE GRACE; THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON; OUR PLANET EARTH; HASTEN SLOWLY: The Journey of Sir Laurens van der Post) is working closely with HH the Dalai Lama to create this important, timely film. Their 30-year relationship, allows for an un-paralleled, intimate portrait.
"My true religion is Kindness." - HH the Dalai Lama

You can help make this film a reality by contributing at a level where you are most comfortable. Then please spread the word across the internet and in the real world about THE DALAI LAMA FILM.
“If scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims.” - HH the Dalai Lama

Making a film is expensive. We want to make the best one possible, and with your support we will. With the $54,000 we raise here, we will be able to finish production on THE DALAI LAMA FILM. This includes another shoot with His Holiness; Desmond Tutu, and a few other friends of His Holiness’s from other spiritual traditions; the story of the kidnapping of Panchen Lama as a harbinger of what could happen with the 15th Dalai Lama; author Danny Goleman, (Emotional Intelligence); Richard Gere; Robert Thurman; Philip Glass.

That would be most helpful, because while the $54,000 gets us through the principle photography, we still need to raise more in order to complete the film.
$150,000 - Would get us through the editing process.
$350,000 - Would allow us to finish the film, including music, film, and photograph rights, sound editing and mixing, on-line color correcting, and creating the masters.
$450,000 - Would allow us to finish the film and promote it for a year with strong outreach.

Donations on Kickstarter are not tax deductible and you can't give more than $10,000. You can make a larger or tax-deductible donation through our 501(c)(3) fiscal agent, Film Odyssey. Please contact us at lemlepix@att.net and we'd be very happy to help you out with that.
“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” HH the Dalai Lama.

Risks and challenges
Anything can happen when making a documentary film and it can be a risky endeavor. Every socially conscious documentary that gets made is a miracle. Producer/Director Mickey Lemle has a 40-year track record making feature films, television series, and documentary specials. On July 6, 2015 His Holiness the Dalai Lama turns 80. This is the time to capture his thinking and reflections in this movie that he calls part of his “spiritual will” and because of that, this movie has to be made now.
We now have substantial material to approach institutional funders, such as public and private foundations, and foreign and domestic distribution and broadcast arrangements.
