This product is Strength #2 (of 2). It is a 32 page comic book that is in full color. It is a satirical look at the double-stand in our society when it comes to the way we perceive female nudity, told through a superhero tale.
This is a world where superheroes are common, woman still don't have equal rights, and nudity is an unspoken of taboo.
Strength is a new superhero who loses her clothes in a supervillian battle, and immediately finders herself condemned by the government and the media, even though her actions saved the city. This is her story to find new direction in life when forced in a situation not of your own making.
This 2nd issue follows the fallout of her actions from Issue #1 to defy the governments orders. When they tell her to retire her name and ways, so as not to continue to bring shame upon their country, she flies through the skies naked in defiance. She is quickly labeled an enemy of the state and must quickly figure out her place in life and society.
The money I need is for paying my artist so that I can continue the comic. The first amount is $850.00, which is half of the artists' payment.
Stretch Goal #1 - $1,700.00
My first stretch goal is $1,700.00, so that I can pay the full artist fee.
Stretch Goal #2 - $2,500.00
The extra $350.00 is so that I can produce 200 copies of the second issue for distribution at conventions and have enough to give away for review (so that I can hopefully build positive reviews that I can eventually post in my projected graphic novel).
Stretch Goal #3 - $2,850.00
Another extra $350.00 is needed to produce more copies of Issue #1 so that I can sell both issues together (as I have sold through a lot of my current stack of the first issue).
Risks and challenges
The risks for completing the project are very low. My artist has already finished issue #1, and is now 1/3 of the way through the 2nd issue. Though progress might be delayed since he also has a full-time job in addition to drawing this, I know the project will eventually get finished.
The main risks are selling it after the project is finished. The book is about an issue that parallels gender double-standards towards women and the shaming and punishment given for things that are not their fault (even more current now with the internet everywhere in our lives), yet is written by a male. Also, it is a comic book which contains nudity, which comes with preconceived notions that it's just there for men to look at and/or just there to appear 'mature'.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
