About this project
Long-term exposure to polluted air can have permanent health effects*:
- Accelerated aging of the lungs
- Loss of lung capacity
- Decreased lung function
- Development of diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and possibly cancer
- Shortened life span

Unfortunately air pollution is only getting worse! We wanted to come up with a stylish solution so you can protect yourself against the harmful effects of this ever increasing problem. Introducing the Inversion Gaiter 2.0...
Particulate Pollution (Air Pollution): A complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets that get into the air. Once inhaled, these particles can affect the heart and lungs and cause serious health effects.
Active Carbon Filter: 5 layer filtering system that includes a replaceable activated carbon filter for capturing particulates found in air pollution. Activated carbon has an extremely large surface area and contains microporosity making it the perfect solution for capturing small particulates.
Independent 3rd Party Lab Results:
We worked with a lab to independently test our replaceable filter and here are the results copied/scanned directly from the report. We received stellar results as no particulates penetrated the filter!
Here are just a handful of applications you can use the Inversion Gaiter 2.0...
Help Us Eliminate Pollution -- #STOPTHEINVERSION
We are completely committed to reducing and eliminating pollution, not only in our home town, but throughout the world. Throughout the entire creative process, our goal was to provide you with a solution to protect against the negative effects of pollution while supporting organizations that work every day to eliminate pollution all together. As part of our #STOPTHEINVERSION campaign, we will take a portion of our income from each mask sold and support local and national organizations such as Utah Physicians for a Health Environment, SLC Air Protectors and Protect our Winters. We also use any influence we have as citizens to address our goals with local and national policy makers.
You will be able to select your color/colors once the campaign has ended in the "Backer Survey" which will be sent to all backers if successfully funded.
Here is what you can get with your support on Kickstarter...
In 2016 Jeff Morton, founder of outdoor apparel company jaMo threads, was inspired by his 4-year-old son, Cole, who struggled to breathe last February due to air pollution. Jeff gave Cole a regular medical mask when he had to go outside, but Cole refused to wear it.
Morton decided to try putting a carbon mask inside one his company's gaiters, which are neck warmers used for winter sports and the original Inversion Gaiter was born.
The first version of the Inversion Gaiter was made by hand and had a few issues. In-order to make the new and improved Inversion Gaiter with a removable filter and at an affordable price he found a high-quality manufacturing partner to help it become a reality.
However to reach the MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) that the manufacturing partner requires we are here on Kickstarter to get a big enough 1st order to make the Inversion Gaiter 2.0 a reality!
What are the improvements of Inversion Gaiter 2.0?
- Replaceable Active Carbon Filters
- Two Exhaust Valves
- Built by a Best-in-Class Apparel Manufacturer
Risks and challenges
Producing a functional air pollution mask definitely has its challenges. Probably the biggest challenge of all, is ensuring that the Inversion Gaiter properly filters out the particulates. During the entire process we have worked closely with one of the premier testing facilities in the United States, having conducted dozens of tests on our masks using the latest particle-filtration testing equipment. However, final testing will need to be conducted in the next few months and while we are confident in our designs and results from previous testing, there is always a chance the test results will be negative.
Even with negative results we know that we will be able to make quick tweaks to the product as we have a talented team of designers and production staff to work to solve any issue that may arise out of product testing.
We also face a potential risk of production capacity. As a newer organization we rely heavily on small batch manufacturing to produce or products, as demand begins to grow, their capacity may be exceeded running the risk of not delivering the product on time. To mitigate this risk we are currently interviewing larger manufacturers both in the United States and abroad to help us meet any excess demand over our current production capacity.
