We have been working toward this goal for several years now, and we've finalized our plans as far as how we would like to start and operate our brewery. We decided it would be best to start small. This will give us the opportunity to sell our amazing beer, while maintaining the freedom of a small brewery to experiment with and brew unique, exciting beers.
From the grain we buy to the shirts we sell, it's very important to us that everything is stamped "Made in America." We will strive to use as many local and homegrown ingredients as possible! This includes everything from growing and harvesting our own hops to cultivating our own hop honey. Hopefully in the very near future we will also be solar powered. Starting on day one, all of our spent grain will be recycled either as compost for our hop fields or feed for local farmers! We will even be using LED lighting for the brew house and taproom, and we vow to continue to try and find new and innovative ways to be a "green business".
All this has been a long time coming, and we have invested so much already. This is why we need YOUR SUPPORT. The money we raise will be divided as follows: Around 45% will be used for building modifications, permits and licensing; 35% for equipment and kegs; and the remaining 20% will go toward Kickstarter fees and awesome gifts for those who donate.
Any extra money will first go to our idea of a bicycle powered grain mill that will allow our patrons to assist in the brewing process by peddling to crush the grain for our next batch. After that, our goal is to have solar panels and possibly a wind turbine installed. This along with many other ideas will allow us to become one of the only Washington breweries powered by the sun!
So now that you've decided to become a backer of BLBC, you might be wondering: How do I donate? Well, we promise it's really quite simple!
1. Choose and click on the reward you would like and enter in the amount you would like to donate.
2. Then you'll be asked to create a Kickstarter account if you don't have one already. It's not as difficult as it sounds; you just have to enter in your name, email address, and create a password. Or you can skip all of that and just sign in with your Facebook account.
3. After you're logged in to Kickstarter, they will send you to Amazon.com to complete the payment part of the transaction. No one's cards will be charged unless we reach our $15,000 goal. Whether we reach our goal or not, though, everyone will receive a BLBC sticker to say "thank you for your support." At the end of the fundraising campaign, then and only then will your card be charged the amount donated.
Risks and challenges
We are currently in the permit/ building phase, so there are many obstacles that we still face. Since most of the modifications to our building are plumbing related, Steve's experience and certification as a Journeyman plumber will help keep our costs down and delays minimal. While your donations will be a big part of our success, they are also needed for obtaining the material and equipment to get these inspections passed.
The licensing is another big obstacle. We will need city, state and federal licenses to open and operate a brewery. This can be very intimidating. We have taken our time getting all the information needed so that as we are starting to raise funds, our building site plan will be in its final stage and then we will be ready for construction. After that it's just a matter of filling out some paper work and waiting for approvals!
Thank you all for taking the time to view and support our project. We hope that you will share this with your family and friends. The more exposure we receive, the better our chances of success!! Whether you donate 10 dollars or a thousand, we (and our families) will always remember YOU as someone who helped make our dream a reality. Thank you in advance for your support- Cheers!
