We are so excited for this film! Thank you for backing us in advance!
We are a few filmmakers who are passionate about shedding light and solutions to subjects we care about. You can find out more about us here: recreatingthegarden.com and Stewpotfilms.com. We plan to stay in close contact with you on our blog while filming.
Recreating The Garden is our call to give voice to the earth. That similarly to a small child that may be hurting but doesn't have the words to speak and needs an advocate, we're here to be that advocate.
There have been many great films on the environment and sustainable agriculture, but we feel the root of the issue has not been fully uncovered. We feel the proliferation of the earth is due to the neglect of our own selves and that healing the earth is dependent on healthier relationships within ourselves. We simply don't have time to care of other things, like the earth, when we are not taking care of ourselves.
We see Hawaii as this magnificent microcosm for the reality of how this is playing out globally: that a disconnect from something bigger, leads to disconnect within ourselves, which leads to a neglected and manipulated earth. We tend to not care about things we don't have relationships with and many children today have never even put their hands in soil or farmland. They have no idea where their food that we are all dependent upon, even comes from. So how can we expect them to make healthy choices?
During our filming, which begins November 1st- Dec 10th, we will be visiting multiple islands, but spending most of our time on the Big Island and Molokai, with some time in Oahu and Maui. We will be interviewing farmers, the chemical companies, School Gardens, the locals and the vacationers.
We will be exploring the juxtaposition of this modern day Eden and Paradise that Hawaii represents to us, with the same Hawaii that is being used as the largest trial field location for Genetically Engineered food and that is unsustainable, importing 90% of their food.
We will be exploring the goodness in all people from the employees working for corporations causing harm to the earth, to the farmers dedicating their livelihoods to supporting of the earth and what that means. How good hearts do such different things. And why?
What is it we're all really searching for?
We hope you will support and join us as we explore man’s search for the primordial Garden and the juxtaposition between perfect paradise and the neglect of that paradise. We have many costs and are creating and producing this entirely out of pocket.
