Gourmet Popsicle Bike Cart
Pedal Pops story began in April of 2012 when Frank & I met at Feast, a local event which aims at connecting creative talent and creative enthusiasm. We shared a similar idea of making healthy treats using fresh, local and organic ingredients and delivering them via bike cart.
After meeting again to discuss our goals and ideas, Frank and I decided to team up to combine our different skill sets and experiences. We brainstormed and experimented with an array of cold treats, from fresh juices to shaved ice.
Gourmet popsicles evolved from this meeting, and throughout the summer, Frank and I put our blenders to good use. Creating flavors such as rose lemonade, raspberry lime, coconut chai, beet rhubarb, ginger peach, pineapple mint, cantaloupe kiwi, strawberry basil, mango chili and arnold palmer.
What Frank and I love about popsicles is the room for creativity. Vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, dairy products and even flowers can all be used to enhance not only the flavor but also the look.
The bright colors are owed to the freshness of the fruits used.
Frank and I also appreciate the simplicity of a popsicle, which makes it an ideal product for a bike cart. They are a breeze to transport -small and lightweight, and are very low maintenance- a cooler with a bit of dry ice keeps them frozen for up to 8 hours.
Being on a bike allows Pedal Pops to venture around the city, stopping at local businesses, parks, neighborhoods, schools, churches & events. Our friends can follow us on Twitter @pedalpopsrva to keep up with where we are and where we plan to be on any given day.
We have plans to participate in regular events like farmer's markets and food truck events and also plan to have routine routes throughout different neighborhoods for passerbys and regulars.
Special ordering is also an option for those who are planning an event like a party or wedding with special pricing, packaging, and even color coordination to match color schemed events.
We are proud of our product and our mission to produce wholesome treats that are a healthy alternative for kids of all ages (grown up kids too) and to inspire Richmonders to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.
With your help, Pedal Pops plans to launch in April of 2013.
Our goal is to raise enough money to help cover some of our expenses of:
1. A Cargo Bike - Ideally something lightweight with gears!
2. Business License & Vending License - We are becoming official!
3. Freezer & Kitchen Rental - We plan to make our pops fresh but we need extra storage and prep space!
As a startup, Frank and I are working hard to build a sustainable business model. We are starting small, with the vision of growing as we go along.
If you can't donate, you can still help us by sharing our story with your friends and family.
