About this project
Hi, I'm Brandon Rottman, a film student at the University of Michigan. My friend, Jordan David, and I are looking to create an iOS application that gives everyone the ability to make awesome videos. There's something special about video montages that summarize vacations and events. Its the reason we love to take videos or pictures. Our records of these events bring out a certain nostalgia, remind us of what that time was like, and let us remember who we shared those times with. And so, after realizing two things:
- Highlight videos are awesome
- The iPhone takes amazing quality video
I thought of Vival (pronounced v-ī-v-ä-l).
Vival: what is it?
Vival is an iOS application designed to give you the ability to easily create montages or "memories" as they're called in Vival, and document special events in your life. More than that, it will give you the chance to capture the little things in your life that make you happy and let you share them with your friends.
It will be designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch and use your device's video camera to capture moments wherever you are. Vival will automatically string each clip of video you take onto the end of the previous string of videos in each memory, creating an ever-expanding montage. You can add your own music too to set the mood of each memory.
If we reach our goal, the funds will go towards the team of developers and designers that will be building Vival.
Other apps like Vival don't give users the ability to make something bigger than they could before. Vival is different and automatically puts your videos in sequence, taking the burden of editing off of your hands.
People love to create things, and why not create something that can show exactly what a vacation, family event, or any moment was like. Not everyone knows how to import, edit, and then upload videos using a video editor, but with Vival, all it takes is recording video and simply selecting which memory to add that clip to. You can use your iPhone's 1080p video capabilities to the fullest.
After making a profile on Vival and finding friends, your activity of creating new memories, uploading new clips, and tagging friends your clips is shown in your friends' news feeds.
You can share with the world what your story is, as it unfolds-- continuously adding to your memories. You can share with the world, an adventure that is uniquely yours.
Thank you note: I will handwrite and personally address a thank you note, letting you know the amount of gratitude I have for your contribution.
Vival Sticker: You will receive a couple stickers with the Vival logo
Beta testing: Be one of the first to use the app, before it arrives to the Apple App Store
Featured on Credit Page: On the credit page, your name or company name will be featured for everyone to see who contributed to Vival.
Vival iPhone Case: You will receive a case for the iPhone 4 and 4S with the Vival logo printed on it.
A chance to pitch: You will be able to pitch any ideas or suggestions you have to the Vival team, and hopefully they'll be implemented into the app!
Featured Memory: One of your memory montages will be displayed and featured on the front page of the Vival website or in the application.
The "Executive Backer": By being an executive backer, your contributions will put you at the top of the credit page, and your name will be highlighted. In addition to the title of being an "Executive Backer" you can wear the special Tshirt and show it too! The special certificate can be hung up in your office and act as a constant reminder that you helped back an awesome project.
The "Top Backer": You will be the top backer. Your contributions have placed you at the most respected spot of Vival backers, and have earned you a spot on the loading page of the app. This will let all Vival users know how much you support the idea.
Thanks for your interest!
