About this project
GRAB YOUR ALE AND GROW YER BEARDS! PROVE YOUR DWARVEN STRENGTH. FIGHT AND DRINK FOR HONOR!
Iron and Ale is 100% Dwarf. It is a game of mining, fighting monsters, drinking and dwarven challenges.
You are a Dwarven Lord challenging other players to become the true Dwarven King. To do this you must lead your clan to conquer the mountain and challenge other Dwarven Lords at the Meadhall. The Dwarven Lord with the most honor when the Mountain Deck is depleted wins.
The mountain is vast and full of riches guarded by sworn enemies. The mountain is made up of 100 cards filled with monsters, iron ore and gold. Sworn Dwarven enemies, such as Orc tribes, Giants, Trolls, the Legendary Dragon and more lurk in the mountain deck. During the Mountain Phase each player draws one card, exploring and mining the mountain. Every kill, every resource brings honor to your clan.
After you draw a card from the Mountain, you draw a card from the Meadhall Deck. The Meadhall is where you drink and challenge the other Dwarven Lords for honor in feats of strength and skill. The Meadhall deck is made up of over 30 Dwarven Challenges and 10 Dwarven Folly cards. All challenges are 100% dwarf and will prove yer dwarven worth. Dwarven Lords are encouraged to place wages using any honor or resources they've gained before the challenges start.
The Dragon sleeps deep at the bottom of the mountain. The Dragon card is placed at the bottom of the mountain deck every game, but you may challenge it anytime. You can go alone or share the honor with other players. Survive and glory is yours.
At the beginning of the game players randomly choose a Dwarven Lord Card. Each Dwarven Lord has a unique ability. There are 10 Original Dwarven Lords and a special Kickstarter Limitied Edition 'Jayceh Tableforge' that comes with the original Kickstarter run.
Risks and challenges
Not finding enough people dwarf enough to fund this project.
A lot of our funding is going into art costs for making all the cards we need. Art delays are always something that can happen. We are confident in our lead artist to get the project done on time within our schedule.
Production is always something that can hold a project back. We have spent months gathering reports, samples and prices from manufacturers and feel very confident with the company we have decided to go with. Building a relationship beforehand is crucial to making sure production stays on schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Iron & Ale is playable without drinking alcohol, but it is a lot more fun with it. Obviously if you decide to drink alcohol you need to be the legal drinking age. Table Forged LLC does not promote under age Dwarven Drinking.
First the game is a card game that is made up of 2 phases and decks.
1.) Mining Phase- Players will draw a card from the Mountain Deck, this card is either a resource or monster. Players will battle monsters by rolling a 1d6 and rolling higher than the monster's strength value. There is a drink penalty for defeat. Some monsters will have another penalty, like the orc encounter that goes back on top of the mountain deck. Resources are spent on Dwarven Lord abilities, can be lost to monsters, and used to wager in the meadhall.
2.) Meadhall Phase- After the players mine the mountain they draw a card from the Meadhall Deck. This Card is either a Dwarven Challenge or Folly. Dwarven Challenges are feats of strength and/or skill that you challenge other players too (ex: Arm Wrestling, Dwarven Battlecry Challenges, Dwarven Kiss on the cheek (slap in the face). We have a huge list of them right now and will release more as production allows for it, but we really want to make sure you feel like a Dwarf in a Meadhall. Playtesting these challenges has been hilarious. These challenges also have drink penalties for losing and all players are encouraged to wager their collected honor on the outcome. The Meadhall is where things really get Dwarven! Folly cards are more like event cards.
Each card has a honor value. Honor is the win condition for the game. The game ends when the mountain deck is depleted and the Dragon is defeated. The player with the most honor at the end of the game wins.
Lastly, players randomly select a Dwarven Lord at the beginning of the game. Each Dwarven Lord will have unique abilities and we are offering a Kickstarter reward to become one of the games Dwarven Lords.
Hopefully this helps answer some questions and thanks again for the interest and support. OH! one last rule, the player with the longest beard always goes first!
After looking over the costs and logistics of internationally shipping, we decided not to do it. For our overseas Dwarven friends, we recommend the $15 reward that will give you access to a printable copy of the game.
We have made a special exception for our Canadian Fans in the North! Check out the $40 'Dwarves of the North' backer reward for more details!
To make sure we make the best game possible there is always the chance the art and text on cards may change as we move ahead in the development process.
Our Lead Artist Cory Trego-Erdner is an awesome up and coming artist located in San Diego. He is Amazing. Look out for more epic things to come from this talented illustrator! http://m0ai.deviantart.com/
