Rock In Purgatory - Heavy Metal Horror Comic
Heavy metal horror comic, featuring the outrageous deaths of hapless rock stars! 48 pages of full colour comics madness.
Published throughout 2017 in Popcorn Horror magazine, Rock In Purgatory is a horror comedy comic strip which showcases the outrageous deaths of hapless rockstars.
The 48 page collected print edition will feature all strips published in Popcorn Horror magazine, plus brand new, never before published strips. Presented as a parody music magazine, it will also include lots of other heavy metal, horror and comedy content. Here's what's inside...
Comics! - Loads of them! All published strips will be available in print for the first time. Alongside them will be all other yet to be published strips that I have written and illustrated for this series. These include a number of two and four page strips, as well as more of the one-pagers that fans will be familiar with.
Here's a sample page:
Poster pull out section - No music magazine would be complete without an 8-page poster pull out in the centre. Featuring awesome pinups of your favourite characters from the comic, you will be eager to tear them out and slap them on the wall (or admire them delicately and keep them stapled in while you bag and board the book, if you are a true comics connoisseur).
Under The Influence - Rock In Purgatory has largely been inspired by true events...or least people say they are true. Discover some incredible 'facts' about some of the bands and tour antics that have been instrumental in my creative process in this short series of articles.
Backstage - So many concept images and character designs were used when planning and developing Rock In Purgatory - in fact, this collected edition features twenty five lead characters and even more supporting charatcers. The Backstage section of the book presents merely a handful of the extensive collection of concept art that led me to the final book.
Merch and rewards

Tour shirts - The only thing cooler than an awesome heavy metal tour shirt is a Rock In Purgatory Kickstarter shirt! These limited edition shirts will available only to Kickstarter backers. Wear them with pride!
Art Prints - We have A6 size Rock In Purgatory art prints, which feature heavy metal art and images from the poster pull out section, so you can hang them on the wall without having those horrible staple tears in the middle.
Exclusive art rewards No comics Kickstarter would be complete without something one-of-a-kind for all you superfans. A selection of original art from the comic is available to buy on a first come first served basis. Or if you wanted something for your eyes only, we have a commission tier, which will bag you an A3, full colour commission of your choice.
Where does the money go?
My target is a rounded up figure to cover print costs for 100 units of the book and estimated Kickstarter fees. I have money set aside to cover costs of all other rewards at the end of the campaign should it hit the target but not exceed it.
I do not anticipate selling 100+ copies of the book on this campaign. I will use the surplus copies of the book sell at events and through my online store. The revenue from those sales will allow me to recover the costs of the other rewards.
Any money earned above the target will go toward covering costs of other rewards and, if there is demand, a larger print run of the book. Finally, if there is remaining money I will use this to recoup costs of materials, which I estimate having spent arond £250 on in order to create the book.
Risks and challenges
Low to no risk.
The comic is complete and ready to go to print. All design elements for other rewards are complete and ready to send for production. Therefore nothing else needs to be created by me before the end of the campaign.
I am using well reputed comic printer Comic Printing UK for the print run. CPUK did the run on my last comic release and were extremely reliable.
The only thing that may slow things down is if printers and merchandisers have a heavy work loads when I place my orders. I will update all backers if revised delivery dates are necessary.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
