Rock In Purgatory
Horns up comics and heavy metal fans! The comic featuring the most outrageous deaths of the most hapless rock stars is here! \m/
Rock In Purgatory is a heavy metal horror comedy strip that
has been running in Popcorn Horror magazine for just over a year. Each strip
features the untimely demise of a fictional rock star, with plenty of sex,
drugs and rock ‘n’ roll to boot.
Originally run as single page stories, this collection will include longer tales unpublished elsewhere. You’ll follow black metal bands as they raise the devil, see the results of combining spilled beer with bad electrical wiring, watch a hardcore band literally bring the house down and discover the pitfalls of sharing a stage with angle grinder performers.
But this isn’t just a rockin’ comic book. Alongside all strips from the first series, the collection will feature nods to popular metal publications such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer. There are tour adverts, instrument endorsements and even a central poster pull out section. Plus, you can read articles about some of the real events and bands which have influenced the stories. And where would we be without a backstage area? In these sections there will be concept art and process articles, showing you what goes on behind the scenes on Rock In Purgatory.
Not enough for you? Who wants some merch then! Take a look at the rewards – there are t-shirts, plectrums, even backstage passes on offer, and don’t forget to pick up tickets to the Rock In Purgatory show.
Still need encouragement? How about some cool art prints? Or original art from the book? Commissions are on offer too, so you can book in your very own piece of custom art. In a band? Why not have me kill you all off in Rock In Purgatory style with a custom commission!
Wanna try before you buy? Of course you do. Below is a page from the book, and you can read strips previously released in Popcorn Horror at my website.
Risks and challenges
Risks are very low. Quotes have been obtained from all suppliers, so the only thing holding production back is me getting things to them in time and them being able to deliver as expected; all of which should be fine.
All line art and writing is complete, with approximately 15% of colour work to be finished off during the campaign. I am launching the book at Wimbledon Comic Art Festival on Saturday 11 November, so irrespective of this Kickstarter being funded I will be getting a print run done by the end of the time frame.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
