While investigating a robbery, private detective Steve Datsun stumbles upon an unusual spate of crimes. Confounding heists, locked door mysteries and mass hypnosis are only a flavour of what's to come.
Surely, there are rational explanations, but is it just a coincidence that so many strange crimes are being committed? Are they connected, or are the links all in Datsun's mind?
And who are those girls...with those HEADS!
In the latest installment of the Heads! mystery, private detective Steve Datsun and his partner Blake Higgins track down Vortex Face, a doom metal band whose performances end in death and destruction. They’ve kidnapped a young musician and their sinister underground tour appears to be linked to the Heads! gang – a group of girls wearing oversized animal heads pulling off heists across London.
As the investigation begins to uncover experimental audio technology which causes mass hypnosis, Datsun’s old police contact DCI Burton joins the search. Clues emerge which link a locked door murder mystery and the theft of a tribal statue to the Heads! gang and Vortex Face, while hinting at the possibility of a bigger threat pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Are all these crimes connected or is Datsun making too many leaps in a desperate attempt to close in on the elusive Heads! gang? In order to find out, Datsun and Higgins go undercover at a Vortex Face gig, running the risk of falling under their deadly influence. Will they find their missing man, stop Vortex Face in their tracks and discover the true identities of the Heads! gang?

Try before you buy
There is an eight page preview of Heads! on my website that you can read for FREE. Here are a few pages from Heads! Stone Deaf Forever to whet your appetite.
What do you get?
The comic is 36 pages of black and white crime noir at a low price. I’ve deliberately kept rewards sparse and attainable by offering original page art and commissions instead of additional merch and art prints of a set of characters who have not been established long.
Every reward tier gets a digital copy of the full comic, and the print version comes with all physical tiers. The comic will be presented in American standard comic format.
For the uninitiated, I've included options to get your hands on the first two Heads! books. I aim to make each issue of Heads! readable in isolation, but let's face it, everyone wants to know the full story. So you can get digital and physical copies of all three Heads! books for a low price.
No long wait for the next issue
I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a big gap between issues of this story. I love indie comics, but sadly they take a lot longer to produce and publish than mainstream comics, which can lead to gaps of up to a year or more between issues. I’m aiming for six months or less between releases. The timeline for the series looks like this:
- Book one – released September 2018
- Book two – released March 2019
- Book three – set for release September 2019
- Book four – expected February 2020
- Book five – expected July 2020
Stretch goal 1 - KISS tribute print - £250
If I can get an extra £100 I’ll be able to give everyone a copy of the KISS Destroyer tribute piece I created with my Dad. He’s an oil painter and has painted me a beautiful rendition of the background from this classic album cover. I have drawn and watercoloured my character in the classic pose and costumes over the top of this, to produce an awesome collaboration image to support this comic release. Physical backers will receive an A4 print, while digital backers will receive a full resolution file which they can have printed if they chose.
Stretch goal 2 - Professional lettering - £400
To give the comic an upgrade in quality, this stretch goal will allow me to employ the talents of the mighty Ken Reynolds on lettering duties. Lettering is my weakest skill, and I aim to improve with each new comic release. But Ken is a pro who’s done a great job on other pieces of mine, so if the budget can be met I’ll be getting him to add an extra edge to this edition of Heads!
Risks and challenges
The comic is completely written, drawn and edited, so all I have to do is put an order in with the printer. I am using Comic Printing UK, as I have for previous projects, so I am confident on a fast turn around of a high quality product.
All original art rewards are ready to send, as they were used to create the comic. The only items not complete at time of launch are individual commissions. I have allowed contingency time in my schedule to make sure I can fulfill these rewards on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
