While investigating a robbery, private detective Steve Datsun stumbles upon an unusual spate of crimes. Confounding heists, locked door mysteries and mass hypnosis are only a flavour of what's to come.
Surely, there are rational explanations, but is it just a coincidence that so many strange crimes are being committed? Are they connected, or are the links all in Datsun's mind?
And who are those girls...with those HEADS!
In the second outing of the Heads! universe, Datsun becomes embroiled in the mysterious and seedy underworld surrounding a metal band who have kidnapped a young man. Shrouded in myth and rumour, Vortex Face are renowned for shows which end in death and mutilation. Has their victim already become a corpse, or is he being brainwashed to join the band and help them carry out their murderous plot?
All the while, Datsun and his partner Higgins are on the tail of the elusive Heads! gang. Three girls in oversized animal heads are pulling off heists across London to steal the most obscure items, including a methane producing waste digester and an indeginous staue on loan from the British Museum. The truth under their masks is alluding Datsun, but that is the least of his worries. A muscle bound, skull faced murderer is on the loose and could well be protecting the Heads! gang to aid their dasterdly cause.
Can Datsun find the missing man, stop Vortex Face before they kill again and escape the clutches of this skeleton-masked thug? Are the Heads! gang behind it all? Find out in Heads! Into The Vortex.
Try before you buy
There is an eight page preview of Heads! on my website that you can read for FREE. Here are a few pages from Into The Vortex to whet your appetite.
What do you get?
The comic is 36 pages of black and white crime noir at a low price. I’ve deliberately kept rewards sparse and attainable by offering original page art and commissions instead of additional merch and art prints of a set of characters who have not been established long.
Every reward tier gets a digital copy of the full comic, and the print version comes with all physical tiers. The comic will be presented in American standard comic format. All print rewards also get a Heads! badge, so you can look cool while reading an awesome comic.
For the uninitiated, I've included options to get your hands on the first Heads! book. I aim to make each issue of Heads! readable in isolation, but let's face it, everyone wants to know the full story. So you can get digital and physical copies of both Heads! books for a low price. There's also packages which include Rock In Purgatory as well.
What's Rock In Purgatory?
I have a limited stock of Rock In Purgatory, my most recently published comic, which I am offering as rewards. Rock In Purgatory includes the first appearance of Vortex Face, an important villain group who appear in this issue of Heads! and into the rest of the story arc. So this is a fantastic opportunity to get clued up on whats coming next.
No long wait for the next issue
I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a big gap between issues of this story. I love indie comics, but sadly they take a lot longer to produce and publish than mainstream comics, which can lead to gaps of up to a year or more between issues. This is the first comic in the Heads! series, I have already completed the art on the second issue and am writing the third now. This means I will be able to release each new issue within 4-6 months of the last one.
Where does the money go?
The target is set to cover a full print run of 50 comics and a conservative estimate on postage. I have a little money set aside to cover any shortfall, which will be minimal because the comic printing and postage are the only costs involved.
Any additional money will go back into buying art supplies and funding additional promo materials, such as roll banners for comic cons or extending the print run if I get more than 50 backers.
I haven't yet set stretch goals, but if the project gets funded with enough time, I'll be sure to start beefing things up.
Risks and challenges
The comic is completely written, drawn and edited, so all I have to do is put an order in with the printer. I am using Comic Printing UK, as I have for previous projects, so I am confident on a fast turn around of a high quality product.
All original art rewards are ready to send, as they were used to create the comic. The only items not complete at time of launch are indvidual commissions. I have allowed contingency time in my schedule to make sure I can fulfill these rewards on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
