Video of working prototype and photo samples

Dear backers and supporters,

We are really sorry for the delay in our reply, thank you for so much for all the comments and your patience!

We have just uploaded 4 videos of our team taking pictures with the Y35 working prototype and those sample pictures taken from it. Please rest assured we do have a prototype that is working!

For the last couple of days, the whole YASHICA team has been spending all extra effort during the weekends to make sure we work out the best solution in delivering our first stretch goal: F2. As well as exploring the possibility of adding a larger sensor or metal body which most backers are excited about. This may result in oversight and delayed in responding your comments, we are really sorry about this and will commit being as responsive as we can in the future, but we kindly ask for your patience if sometime we can’t answer your question immediately.

We would like to sincerely thank you for the KS community’s contribution to the Y35 project, we would never come this far without your support and we appreciate every single comment that will help us shape this project better and better. As some backers pointed out some concerns on the actual camera's specifications, we immediately reported this issue to our engineering team. All of your feedback is invaluable to us and we are listening to it carefully, please keep motivating us for improving.

It is you the KS community made our dream come true, thank you! We are glad that we are on this journey together! Let’s create a perfect YASHICA camera that all YASHICA’s fans have been longed for!

Frankly, we are still overwhelmed with your tremendous support and enthusiasm on the idea of YASHICA Unprecedented comeback. We have been dedicated to the brand, bringing our Y35 and innovative digiFilm system to the market is just the beginning of writing a new page for the YASHICA story.

      @Alessandro Cola
      - We cannot add the "B" and "T" long exposure
      - Already ready for tripod use
      - At this moment, we still keep "aperture priority" since this is the original taste of YASHICA electro 35
      - M mode cannot appear in the y35 now.
Please keeping contribute and comments to help us improve the y35.

Thank you for your comments. At the moment, we are sorry to tell you we don't have plan to add a self timer. But of course the y35 already comply with tripod.
And our team is trying our best to improve y35 at a same price with all your comments.

I’ve already backed the project (and I’m very excited about this), but I will propose some (probably) cheap modification in order to improve dramatically the final quality of the product:
      - Is it possible to add the possibility to have long exposure ? Pose “B” and “T” will be very appreciate
      - Is it available the classic tripod mount at the bottom of the body ?
      - Is it available the M – manual mode of exposure more than the mentioned “aperture priority”? For me it will be a very important and appreciate feature
      - If it’s possible/available the M mode, is it possible to have an (even basic) exposure meter ?

Is it possible to have the answers in any case ?
Thank you in advance for all you are making and all you will do.

Thank you kindly for the wonderful update it's greatly appreciated. If not already mentioned or on your optimization list, will there be a self timer installed for tripod use...? And lastly how will all of these upgrades mentioned by other backers effect the camera price? Thank you in advance, I look forward to further contributing in the success of the digiFilm and hearing back in any future updates. I'm "Expecting the Unexpected"

I really hope for an aperture ring on the lens.

It's in the bottom. They keep adding the new information to the bottom of the description page, right before the "Risk and Challenge" section.

Click where it says Campaign, all the videos, sample shots and other data are there (as Yashica have repeatedly said)

metal body! Otherwise it's just a cheap toy. Size can be lager doesn't matter

You made a specific point of saying you produced and uploaded 4 videos... where are they?

It is important to honour the original Electro 35 in its look and feel. This camera must not look or feel like a toy.

A larger sensor would put this camera at a next level other than a simple curiosity.

Just hoping this isn’t another gimmick

Metal body and bigger sensor would be nice but asking for them on something you have backed is like agreeing to buy a beaten up old car and expecting a new one for the same price!

Unfortunately, those sample pictures seem not sharp at all.

Rangefinder mechanism doesn't seem worth the trouble.
This is using small sensor. Everything 1 meter and further would have been "in focus".
Meanwhile, close focus is not something rangefinder is good at. Rangefinder lenses are usually coupled to 70cm, at the closest. Add with the fact that rangefinder aren't the most forgiving mechanism, there will be a lot of calibration needed, and easily knocked off.

Don't think it's worth the trouble.

From the recent updates(photos), I'm quite confused because of the too much greenery photos with low contrast.
Do you have a plan to fix this phenomenon?

Pixels are not my concern, but a 1 inch sensor, would make this camera, truly, truly special.

First of all, thanks for accepting comments from us (the backers) and the great effort in continuing to improve the camera. All of us who have backed this project are definitely super excited to receive the finish product in mail.

If there are any improvements I wished to see on this camera while keeping in mind the cost of the camera, it would be the following:

      - improvement from f2.8 to f2 (thanks for making it happen)

      - bigger sensor (if possible)

      - able to manual focus but not by wire. Rangefinder style like GSN Electro 35 (manual focus is a huge thing for most of us)

      - able to use different apertures (maybe aperture ring on the lens?)

      - metal body or high quality plastic is fine by me

      - hot shoe that can sync at all speeds otherwise at least 1/200 (this will present so many possibilities be it using speedlites or studio strobes)

What I feel we DON'T NEED:

      - built-in flash (who shoot with this seriously?)

      - auto-focus unless it's super reliable and super quick even in low light; I'll be better off with manual focus, rangefinder style.

      - interchangeable lens. I believe this camera is not meant to be a poor man's Leica M. No, I don't need interchangeable lens.

      - silent shutter or loud shutter. I like the shutter to whisper to me.

@Lois This is already a must to pull the lever (Film winder) before every shoot.

    26. Missing avatar

      Lois on

Also about the lever. Will the camera body check the lever ?
So user will need to crank it first or the camera will refuse to take picture.

    27. Richard Tran on

Quick question regarding the advance lever. Is it geared for for some feedback/resistance? Or its just a floaty lever?

      Thanks
