11/18/2010 UPDATE: ONE FINAL WEEK, ONE FINAL AUDACIOUS GOAL
"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark." — Michelangelo
In the spirit of Michelangelo, and now that we have successfully achieved with your help the mark of $20,000 with one week to go until the campaign's deadline, we feel we would be remiss in our responsibilities toward the Jonah project to not raise our aim higher. The to-do list to complete Jonah remains long. While it may seem audacious - and probably is - we are raising our aim to $25,000 by noon on Thanksgiving Day.
To all those who have pledged already, please accept our deepest thanks. To those backers who have raised their pledges, we are likewise most grateful. And to those who have not yet pledged, please consider pitching in to not only receive the incentives listed on the right, but to help make Jonah possible.
We don't know whether we will reach the audacious goal of $25,000. But whether we do or not, please know how grateful we are to all who have rallied around this project. To be sure, the funds will help immensely. But it is even more meaningful to feel the support of so many in this effort. Thank you.
11/16/2010 UPDATE: THANK YOU, BACKERS!
We are truly grateful to all who have helped us surpass the $20K milestone. Your pledges will make it possible for us to be able to accomplish something that will hopefully touch many lives for years to come.
Of course, if there are others who would still like to join our list of backers, your pledges would still be most welcome and helpful in our post-production efforts on Jonah. The to-do list on this project remains long.
But first, to celebrate, be sure to click the blue "UPDATES" tab above and scroll down to watch the third extended Jonah clip showing what your pledges are making possible.
11/1/2010 UPDATE: HELP US REACH $20,000
A great big THANK YOU to all who have helped us reach our initial goal of $15,000. 'Tis a challenge to set a goal for an all-or-nothing Kickstarter campaign. On the one hand, we wanted to set it high enough to make a significant impact if we achieved it. On the other hand, we did not want to set it so high that it couldn’t be achieved, and thereby lose any help at all. We are truly grateful to all who have made pledges and helped us achieve our initial goal on Halloween day.
While the $15,000 won't fully pay for the special effects work on Jonah, it will cover much of it. But if we were able to reach at least $20,000 by our deadline of Thanksgiving Day, we would be able to fully pay the tab of the special effects work, thereby helping us stretch our available resources on other elements of our post production, such as:
- Live instrumentation for the score
- Sound mixing
- Color correction
- DVD authoring
2 Bonus Incentives
If we are able to reach $20,000 by our deadline, we will celebrate by making available for download to all backers who have pledged $10 or more a copy of the screenplay of "Jonah & the Great Fish" as a PDF, in addition to the incentives listed for their pledge level.
In addition, if we reach $20,000 by our deadline, we will further celebrate by making available for download to all backers who have pledged $50 or more the complete library of sheet music for the first eight Liken movies, a $50 value if purchased as a set, about a $150 value if purchasing the songs separately. This, too, would be in addition to the incentives listed to the right for their pledge level.
It's our way of celebrating everyone who has pledged and helped us spread the word in our effort to complete post-production on Jonah. But whether or not we reach either of the bonus level, please know how grateful we are here at Lightstone Pictures to all of you for your support of this project.

THE LIKEN PROJECT
A few years ago we had an idea – an idea to help bring scripture stories to life for kids through a series of movies the whole family can enjoy together.
Thus Liken was born. Each Liken movie musical takes a scripture story and brings it to life in the imagination of a child, with original songs, dancing, and plenty of good-natured fun to keep the kids’ attention. And there’s always a message that the kids can liken to their own lives today (hence the name of the series).
We’ve made 8 Liken movies so far. And now we’re working on number 9: “Jonah & the Great Fish.”
It’s a story about a young girl, Chloe, who moves to a new school, where she doesn’t feel like she belongs. So her dad tells her a story about someone else who didn’t feel like he belonged (at least not in Nineveh).
As she imagines the story to life, it turns out that Chloe’s imagination is a little more involved than our previous imagined versions of scripture stories. For one thing, there’s a pretty big boat. Not to mention a storm. And the square of a big city called Nineveh, a whole undersea world, and of course, a trio of singing crab girls (introducing The Crabelles).
Where We Are Now
For the past 2 years, a lot of people have been working very hard on Jonah. We’ve shot it, and now we’re in post production. It will be our first feature-length Liken. And we’re getting close to having it finished. But we’re not there yet.
That’s where we need your help. The special effects work on Jonah is the latest in a long line of efforts to help take this Liken movie to the next level.
Why We Need Your Help
Originally, we were just going to add CGI to the underwater scenes. But Darin and Alex, our special effects team, have been doing amazing work on the "overwater" scenes as well.
Lightstone has poured everything it has into Jonah. Now we need your help to finish it. We're working to raise $20,000 to complete the special effects.
We’ve set Thursday, Nov. 25 as our deadline.
How You Can Help
Pledges of any size are greatly appreciated.
And just as important as making a pledge is helping to spread the word about our Kickstarter campaign. Please take a minute or two to use the tools on this page (located above under the video) to share the link on Facebook, Twitter, your blogs, your email list. Think of your friends at church, at work or at school.
Thank you for helping bring Jonah to life. And for your support of Liken over the years.
Q: When Will Jonah Be Released?
That is still to be determined. We are pressing forward on many fronts to make it happen as soon as possible. We now know it will be in 2011. We will give you plenty of advance notice once we have firmed up a date.
Q: What if I'd rather have multiple sets of the DVD/CD combo to give as gifts rather than the incentive offered at the higher level? Is that possible to arrange?
A. Certainly! Simply make your pledge, then email Josh at email@example.com and let him know that you'd like us to send you X number of DVD/CD combos instead of the incentive for that level.
Q: Is it possible to send the incentive for my level as a gift instead of having it sent to me?
A. Yes. Simply make your pledge, then email Josh at firstname.lastname@example.org and let him know where you'd like us to send the incentive once it is available.
Have any other questions, please contact Josh @ email@example.com or call us at 1-801-373-2880.
