Alba's Edge is a sibling-led musical powerhouse bridging the gap between Scottish fiddle traditions, Jazz improvisation, Latin rhythms and Funk grooves. Co-led by Neil and Lilly Pearlman, the quartet has been gradually evolving and honing our sound over the past 4 years. Now that Lilly has graduated we are finally ready to take the next step: writing and recording our first full length album!
Our goal of $7,500 would allow us to cover the basic expenses of recording, mixing, mastering and manufacturing our album. If through your generosity we are able to meet this goal the album will definitely happen and we'll be incredibly excited.
However there are a few extra costs that would allow this album to be the absolute best it can be, so we are setting a "reach goal" of $12,000. If we manage to not only raise our initial goal but kick it up to $12,000 we will be able to afford everything we need to make the album of our dreams. This would include bringing in a producer who is well versed in the music we are creating and experienced enough to help us craft the ideal recording. It would also include publicity campaigns to get the album out there, graphic design to make it super spiffy looking and more.
The name "Alba's Edge" comes primarily from the Scottish Gaelic language, where the word "Alba" is the name for Scotland itself. In the spirit of our name, we are always aware of our deep connection to Scottish tradition while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of that tradition. But there is a secondary source for the name, drawn from the significant Latin American influence on our music. The word "Alba" in Spanish means "Dawn" and this meaning is particularly significant as we ask you to help us create this new piece of art and move into the next chapter for our band. The music we are creating for this album is cyclic, motivic and layered. It is inspired in many cases by new beginnings, recoveries and repeating patterns in music, life, history and the planet. We are very excited about the new music we're working on and about the new album as a whole. Thank you so much for your help, we can't wait to get to work!
Risks and challenges
Although we have carefully planned our timeline to allow for unexpected delays, the recording process is inherently unpredictable and it is impossible to anticipate everything. Whatever happens, whether we're on schedule or delayed, we will keep all our backers in the loop with regular updates on our progress toward a May 2015 album release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
