Fife & Drum's Comprehensive Range

Fife & Drum Miniatures commenced business in 2011 with its first releases of American Militia and British Light Infantry figures, sculpted in 1/56 scale (approximately 30mm in height) by the very talented Richard Ansell. Because the Fife & Drum figures are sculpted to a scale, rather than an arbitrary size (e.g. 28mm or 30mm), the end result is a graceful and lifelike miniature with head, hands, torso and equipment all done in exact proportions. The figure range has expanded to over 100 figures including American Militia, Continentals in uniform coats and hunting shirts, Continental artillery crew, British Guards, Light Bobs, Grenadiers, line infantry and artillery crews. We have also commenced a comprehensive range of artillery equipment covering both the Seven Years War (1756-1763) and the AWI (1776-1783) periods.
The Fife & Drum range is augmented by an extensive selection of artillery equipment (British, French and American cannons and limbers) for both the American Revolution and the Seven Years War periods.
Fife & Drum Growth Plans
The Fife & Drum range has grown to over 100 figures and includes the core infantry and artillery crew and equipment for both sides of the AWI conflict circa 1777. Our near term goal, to be funded by this Kickstarter Project, is to create the cavalry figures for the American and British armies. As a result, Fife & Drum will then be able to offer all three basic combat arms (infantry, artillery and cavalry) for both sides. Once the basic combat arms are completed, then we will broaden the range to include Highlanders, Hessians, Frontier Militia and Indians, Rangers and even the French army. Fife & Drum plans to deepen and broaden its range of AWI figures and is committed to seeing the project through to its end.
UPDATE (July 10, 2013)
The initial funding goal of $5,000 has been achieved on the first day of the project! THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE.
We have surpassed three of our stretch goals: $8K, $12K and $16K which have unlocked the British Legion cavalry, Hessians I and Hessians II, respectively. Thank you everyone!
Now, our next goal is to hit the stretch goal of $20,000 as this will unlock the Highlanders. I have received many requests to add Highlanders to the range, so here is your chance to make it happen. Don't stop now boys, let's see if we can hit Stretch Goal No. 4!
Tarleton Is Coming Soon!
After we achieve our targeted goal of $5,000, which will fund the cavalry contingent of the American and British armies, the following stretch goals will help to further establish the Fife & Drum Miniatures range of figures (each set of stretch goal figures will go into production at approximately 6-month intervals after the previous levels' figures are produced):
Stretch Goal No. 1: $8,000 - British Legion Cavalry - UNLOCKED!
Stretch Goal No. 2: $12,000 - Hessian Infantry (musketeers) -UNLOCKED!
Stretch Goal No. 3: $16,000 - Hessian Grenadiers and Jagers - UNLOCKED!
Stretch Goal No. 4: $20,000 - Highlanders - UNLOCKED!
Stretch Goal No. 5: $24,000 - French infantry
Limited Edition Kickstarter Figures
We are pleased to be able to offer this cool vignette depicting the three Spirit of '76 figures to all contributors at the Patriot ($50) contribution level and above. The figures, sculpted by Richard Ansell, are currently in production:
We are also offering additional special figures of Banastre Tarleton and Francis (the Swamp Fox) Marion at other pledge levels.
We have already invested over $30,000 of our own funds into this project to bring the range up to its current product line of over 100 figures and artillery equipment pieces. So we have plenty of "our own skin in the game" which should demonstrate our commitment to create all of the figures listed in the Stretch Goals shown above. With your help and investment, we can realize these goals much sooner.
Risks and challenges
With over 100 individual castings already in production, the Fife & Drum range has a running start on the dragoon project supported by an established range of figures. Our casting partner, Griffin Moulds Ltd in the UK, is one of the premier casters of metal miniatures in the wargame industry, so we are confident that any potential production delays are mitigated by Griffin's extensive experience on the production side.
The principal risk is the sculptor's time. Richard Ansell is an artist and a very talented one at that. If for some reason our sculptor could not work then there could be the potential for a delay in the release of the figures. However, we feel that this risk is mitigated by our long standing relationship with Richard and we let him work at his own pace so that he is free to devote his full attention to our projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
