CodeWorld the Miniatures Game (Canceled)
Battle with dominoes in three dimensions, in this cyberspace-themed skirmish miniatures game!
Following an 18 month journey of development, Dreamstruck Games is excited to announce its first game: CodeWorld the Miniatures Game, a 2-4 player tactical cyberspace miniatures skirmish game. In this engaging and innovative game, dive into the role of the Operator. Put together a band of VR hackers, fighters, and coders. Use squad-level tactics, manipulate dominoes, and obtain information to secure your agenda before your opponent disconnects your band.
Join us in making CodeWorld the Miniatures Game a reality.
Dreamstruck Games Needs Your Help!
We have taken CodeWorld as far as we can on our own. Dreamstruck Games is a one-man company working together with a host of volunteers, playtesters, artists, modelers, manufacturers, distributors, and more. Help us push this game from a (heavily tested) vision with a prototype to a full-blown wargaming system!!!
Kickass, thematic models...
Use dominoes to create movement chains...
Use custom stands to climb up walls...
Run across rooftops and jump into the air...
Attack using dominoes to lock onto your target...
Images are all of our prototype. Paper dolls are stand-ins for miniatures. Designs for frames, board, cards, dominoes, etc. are subject to change.
Check us out on:
CodeWorld the Miniatures Game has been thoughtfully designed from square one to incorporate some true innovations in the miniature wargame scene.
What is special about CodeWorld?
CodeWorld the Miniatures Game is a truly three-dimensional game. Utilizing custom-designed accessories, characters are able and encouraged to run up walls, jump from building to building, and even attack from midair.
With our custom base and frame designs, quickly and easily lock any character into position on any surface:
Paperdoll is a stand-in for the miniature; miniatures in all pledge levels will ship with custom base bottom; designs in gif are work in progress and subject to change.
Dominoes, not dice:
From its inception, CodeWorld the Miniatures Game was designed to play with dominoes. We have been able to build interesting, tactical, and rewarding new mechanics utilizing dominoes. When performing Actions, draw pools of dominoes, manipulate them, and then determine the result by considering how the dominoes are placed and their values.
In CodeWorld the Miniatures Game, we have taken the theme of cyberspace and had some fun with it. Push your characters to the limit and force them to Overclock, a powerful status speeding your character up. Inflict Lag, Tag, Mute, Frozen, and more on your enemies. Socialize to obtain information through the Social mini-game. Attempt to Hack to gain a wide variety of powerful effects.
Skirmish size with a twist:
The game is a true skirmish miniatures game, with bands typically consisting of approximately 10 models total, equal to 30 Bandwidth (points). However, the game is designed to fundamentally work at three levels: small (10 Bandwidth), medium (20 Bandwidth), or large (30 Bandwidth). In a large game, your whole band battles it out in the game space. However, in small and medium games, the band members not in play are available to Hot Swap into play from your "Database," a persistent side board.
Meaningful list building:
Build a Band of 30 Bandwidth (points) from your faction's available characters. Each faction will have approximately 8 characters available at launch, and 1 Operator with an associated unique Proxy character. (Look to our Stretch Goals to unlock more!) Your Band gets one Operator/Proxy for free, then assembles 30 Bandwidth of other characters (average cost is 4 Bandwidth). Your Operator determines your Agenda (victory condition). Each character has an Operation. Each round you will get to perform four Operations, with the restriction that each character's Operation may be used once per iteration of the character (including the characters in your Database/side board!). Choose your Band Members (and their associated Operations) carefully! Finally, most characters may be loaded with a Hack (special power) of your choice from a faction-specific set.
Highly customizable game space:
We have designed the "frames" (three-dimensional grid-like game components that provide for vertical movement) of CodeWorld to be hollow and largely see-through. Why is that? This allows players to put any terrain they want onto the board with our frames acting as the HUD on top. Battle it out in Bazillidex City. Or, just as easily, fight on Mars, in a forest, in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, anywhere. In CodeWorld, anything is possible.
Compact game system:
Despite the game's large presence (taking up a 36" x 36" x 14" game space), the frame components are thoughtfully designed to quickly disassemble and be packed flat. The entire game fits in a 12" x 12" box, similar to a board game, and sets up in less 10 minutes.
Interact with and battle NPCs:
Socialize with amiable Personas, CodeWorld's denizens, to gain valuable information. Mess with them too much, however, and you will find yourself fighting off the algorithmic enforcers, the ProBots.
Deep tactical gameplay that rewards out-of-the-box thinking:
CodeWorld the Miniatures Game has deep, layered gameplay mechanics. Once mastered, these intuitive and innovative mechanics allow players to discover amazing tactics. Play the game "checkers"-style, more straightforward and just for fun, or "chess"-style, diving deep into the bottomless well of tactics CodeWorld has available. Either way, you'll enjoy the game!
CodeWorld the Miniatures Game takes place in a cyberspace realm known as CodeWorld. The story is initially set in a large cyberpunk domain known as Bazillidex City; however, CodeWorld is made up of many domains and future stories will take players to a wide-berth of interesting locations.
In Bazillidex City, rival bands vie for the attention of amiable Personas, or CodeWorld denizens, to gain information. Bands are lead by Operators, master coders who stay in the real world and direct their teams. Each Operator controls a proxy in CodeWorld, whose main purpose is to project a field around the band called a Firewall to protect from the algorithmic enforcers known as ProBots. At its essence, CodeWorld is about Bands clashing, fighting, socializing, hacking, and disconnecting each other in the race to meet their Operators' agenda.
In the months leading up to CodeWorld's release, you will learn about Yaimxors the Onna-Bugeisha, Private Doobius the Dex Warden, Dan the Rager, Silentus the Glitchualist, and a larger cast of characters.
Something dark has fallen over Bazillidex City, and its overlord Regent Boomslang has tasked the VARPer Guild The Champions of the Ultriskellion to find out what it is and stop it. In the meantime, the race is on between the Freelancer's InfoNinja Band and the Emoticorps to find the mysterious Persona "S", believed to have a piece of invaluable information. All the factions will collide as deeper plots by The Glitcher are revealed to threaten the very existence of CodeWorld itself...
The goal with our miniatures is to produce distinguishable, high quality miniatures that take advantage of our cyberspace setting and provide an awesome game experience. All our miniatures will be high-quality plastic, in either one or just a few pieces.
We are very proud of the miniatures we are producing, the characters we are designing to populate CodeWorld, and are excited about growing and improving on this aspect of our game system with every iteration.
The CodeWorld the Miniatures Game Kickstarter presents four unique and powerful core factions. Three more factions are nestled within our Stretch Goals. Please enjoy the character art and renders we have completed to date, with each faction having access to five additional characters/models as part of our base Funding Goal.
From left to right: The Cloaked Watcher Proxy (paired with the Recruiter Operator); the Onna-Bugeisha; the Ninjoro; and the Catspaw.
Five more InfoNinjas characters have designs underway: The secretive Shade-nobi, the daring Samurider, the gruff Roninfoholic, the grooving B-Boy, and the protective Asterisker. These will be available at certain Pledge Levels and/or as Add-ons with no stretch goals required!
Playstyle: The InfoNinjas are a fast, dodgy, cat-and-mouse style faction. They excel at getting places fast and charming their opponents out of information. However, if an InfoNinja Operator lets his Band get cornered, things can go south fast.
From left to right: The Instruct-ARM Proxy (paired with the Laugh Sergeant Operator); the LOL-fficer; the Tech Trooper; and the Noob.
Five more Emoticorps characters have designs underway: The crazed Shock-n-Clock Trooper, the synergistic Teammando, the long-range Hyper Sniper, the lag-inflicting Lag Grenadier, and the area-controlling Dex Warden. These will be available at certain Pledge Levels and/or as Add-ons with no stretch goals required!
Playstyle: The Emoticorps are long-range jack-of-all-trades. They operate best when utilized together, and are the faction most prone to gain assistance from hostile ProBots during the course of a game.
From left to right: A Crackling Ball; the Eye of The Glitcher Proxy (paired with The Surveying Glitcher Operator); another Crackling Ball; and the Glitchualist.
Five more Glitch characters have designs underway: The supportive Glitch Witch, the lurking Renderman, the infectious Buggyman, the striking Crackling Bolt, and the glitchified Perso/flaw/. These will be available at certain Pledge Levels and/or as Add-ons with no stretch goals required!
Playstyle: The Glitch are an infectious faction. As their Operator, you will look to spread the Glitch to enemies as well as friends to fuel your most powerful moves. If you are able to plan your infection well, your band will be extremely powerful. Mismanage, however, and you will find yourself weak.
From left to right: The Villager Proxy (paired with the Guild Veteran Operator); the Rager; the Safeguard; and the Bling Troll.
Five more VARPer Guilds characters have designs underway: The trap-laying Punk, the scouting Tracker, the hacking Pewter Mage, the buffing Deejay, and the repairing Custodian. These will be available at certain Pledge Levels and/or as Add-ons with no stretch goals required!
Playstyle: The VARPer Guilds play like a good role-playing group or MMO party--each character has pronounced strengths and weaknesses that, when used in sync, synergize and provide great tactics and power. The faction has character-level tasks or "mini-agendas" to gain Trinkets, Trophies, or Treasures, which contribute in various ways to the Operator's Agenda aka the Band's Quest.
CodeWorld the Miniatures Game is packaged a bit different from other miniatures games.
Unlike many miniatures games, CodeWorld asks the players to use a set of game specific neutral pieces - the frames, both large and small, many tokens, and several NPCs including their cards. To make this affordable, and to effectively split the cost of the core elements, we have decided to sell half the full set of neutral parts as a "Training Kit." Purchasing one Training Kit, in addition to two players each having a Faction Starter Set, is enough to get you playing and learning CodeWorld. When your group (or store) is ready to take the plunge, the next player purchases the second Training Kit, and so on.
That way, each player only needs one Training Kit to ever play the full game! Show up to game night at your friendly local game store, or your friend's place, and if you bring your Kit and Band, and any other CodeWorld player does the same, you are ready for a full game of CodeWorld!
Training Kits are available at certain Pledge Levels as well as Add-ons!
In addition to all the items above, the Training Kit will gain all Stretch Goals labeled as "Included in Training Kit"!
Each Faction Starter Set comes with the miniatures, cards, and accessories to play a 10 Bandwidth (point) game!
Faction Starter Sets are available at certain Pledge Levels as well as Add-ons!
In addition to all the items below, each Faction Starter Set will gain all Stretch Goals labeled as "Included in Faction Starter Sets"!
Individual Miniature Packs allow players to purchase one-offs of the nine characters available to each Faction, including duplicates of the Starter Set miniatures if desired (other than the Proxy character).
Individual Miniature Packs are available at certain Pledge Levels as well as Add-ons! Any "Full Faction" Pledge level will include one Individual Miniature Pack for every character in the Faction other than the Starter Set characters, including any unlocked characters for the Faction.
In addition to all the items above, each Individual Miniature Pack will gain all Stretch Goals labeled as "Included in Individual Miniature Packs"!
Individual ProBot Packs allow players to purchase one of the five different ProBots available at the Funded level to compliment their Operator Bands. Probots function as third party hostile characters that players battle during a game of CodeWorld the Miniatures Game. Players get to choose what ProBots they bring to the fight, that have a chance of appearing.
The four ProBots are: The Detector (an average ProBot) (included in the Training Kit); The Deletor (a slower, more powerful ProBot); The Scannor (a sniper ProBot); and, The Lynx (a feline ProBot with unique synergies with the VARPer Guilds Tracker character).
Available at certain Pledge Levels as well as Add-ons!

Risks and challenges
Dreamstruck Games demands high standards and will not accept below par work. Importantly, this company believes in delivering an exceptional product and most importantly an exceptional GAME. Because of this, the company is partnering with many companies/people at every point in the supply chain to ensure high quality components that can be delivered on time, all the while focusing on delivering exceptional game and character rules. From artwork through to distribution, Dreamstruck Games has one or more parties in place to deliver. However, this absolutely is a new enterprise and there will be some growing pains and much to learn. There has been contingency built into the project time estimates to accommodate such delays should they happen.
The owner, Tim Schurmann, has the core skill set required to manage and deliver a project of this size. He is experienced in working with large numbers of contractors to put together large projects (working as primary Purchasing Agent and Information Systems Manager for a homebuilding company, budgeting and ordering twenty to one-hundred $150k-$500k home projects in addition to an approximately $500k tech budget) as well as excellent time management and organizational skills and leading teams to success (working up to twenty-five complex cases at a time at McCathern PLLC and working a full trial from start to finish at Baylor Law School!). Tim has committed his career to developing games, and with the full support of his personal social circles (friends, family, former colleagues, etc.) nothing will stop him from delivering this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
