Leon Reid IV Studio Disaster Relief

Hi All-

I'm posting this on behalf of Leon, whose studio in Brooklyn was completely flooded with 5 feet of water during the storm, ruining years of his work (and some expensive tools/equipment).  Unfortunately the Hundred Story House was a casualty as well, though we may try and see if it can be somehow rebuilt.  We had just brought it in from the park, where it had a successful 2-month residency, though in the end it may have fared better outside during the storm.

I'm posting a link here that shows the damage done to the studio and Leon's plan to restore all that he's lost, which entails selling some of his artwork.  Hope you will check it out:

Thanks so much,

The House is up and running...

Here are some shots of the Hundred Story House in action on opening weekend.  It is getting such a great response from the community, and we're so happy to see people really making use of it -- especially kids! .   If you haven't had a chance to come out and see it, try to make it out to JJ Byrne Park by Oct 26th. And bring books!

All the best,

Julia and Leon

Come out and see the House this Saturday!!

Hi All--

This Saturday, the Hundred Story House will finally be up and running!  Please come out to JJ Byrne Park in Park Slope, right in front of the Old Stone House, on Saturday between 11AM and 4PM for an opening reception.  We'll be selling T-shirts and mugs, and there will be an incredibly nerdy contest in which a list of first-lines of famous novels will be presented, and the person(s) who can correctly name the most novels wins a gift certificate to Community Books.

Also -- please do bring books you'd like to donate!  (Ideally 5 or 6, as our storage is limited.  Also best if they are books you love and want to share, not old phone directories or your LSAT prep books).  Kids books too!

Hope you can make it out!  If not, come check out the House at any point between Saturday and October 26.

Thank you all again so much for making this happen,

Julia and Leon

Hundred Story House Launch!

Hi Everyone--

We are very happy to announce that The Hundred Story House has a launch date!  As of Saturday, September 8, it will be in the JJ Byrne Park in Park Slope, Brooklyn (5th Avenue and 3rd Streets).  It will be in the park until late October.  We will be there all day on the 8th collecting books and conducting a little opening ceremony. If you can, please come out to donate books or just check out the community project that you made possible!

For more updates on the Hundred Story House go to www.hundredstoryhouse.com.   And THANK YOU once again!

Hundred Story House -- almost done!

Hi Everyone--

See progress photos of the Hundred Story House, attached.  It's almost there!!  As we near completion I may put a request for book donations from NYC locals -- so please start putting aside books you don't want (and that someone else might reasonable want) and sometime next month I'll come and take them off your hands.  Kids books too!

Also we got a nice mention on this website:

THANKS!!
