THE 2100 MURAL PROJECT : ONE
Promoting local artists' work while beautifying one of Dallas' most creative and eclectic communities with a highly visible public mural, resulting in the largest art display in East Dallas.
The 2100 Mural Project : ONE is going to create the largest urban mural in East Dallas. This will provide an outstanding opportunity for local artists to promote their work on a grand scale! The canvas for the project is a 6' tall corrugated metal fence which runs along 2100's property.
Located less than a mile from the Arboretum at White Rock Lake, the mural will be publicly visible from Lakeland Drive year-round at no charge. Future hosted events will further benefit the mural's exposure to the public.
As word has spread of thIs mural project, 2100 has been overwhelmed by the encouragement and enthusiasm we have received. Public and civic leaders' enthusiastic reaction about our impact on the neighborhood has been exhilarating.
The first phase of The 2100 Mural Project consists of painting 460 feet of fence, to be created by local artists in approximately 18 foot sections. Future phases propose to extend the fence an additional 650 feet, on which the mural would be continued. Pre-production of phase one is underway, and 30% of the mural space has been spoken for. The participating artists have agreed to comply to the mural project's timeline. Painting will begin in early June, with a projected completion in July.
Kickstarter backers' donations will be applied to...
- paint fund for twenty artists
- printing costs related to acquiring talent
- artists' refreshments during project
- public reception at 2100 upon completion of the project
The City of Dallas' Cultural Affairs, and City Plan Commission are in support of the project and its future expansion. In addition, television, print and online media coverage will be utilized for this project.
Art in Dallas has been trending eastward, with recent multi-million dollar investments to the Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake. Complete funding of The 2100 Mural Project : ONE will provide a permanent testament to the area's vibrant art culture.
Make this your opportunity to be on the ground level of reshaping the art landscape of East Dallas forever!
Risks and challenges
The biggest issues we face are acquiring the talent and setting reasonable completion deadlines without compromising creativity.
Optimally, twenty artists will be assembled for this project. However, gathering all artists simultaneously within a single time frame is not feasible. Therefore, each confirmed artist will work as their schedule permits, with a definitive deadline to complete their murals by July 13. The public closing reception will follow July 14.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
