We have decided to wait until we are ready to ship the books, so we can get the most accurate pricing of shipping as possible. Last year, we ended up losing thousands of dollars that would have been shared between all the artists because USPS raised their prices (esp international) so much between when we ran our Kickstarter and when we shipped the books. Many packages we were paying an extra $20 to $30 to ship than what we charged for shipping.
Also because the Kickstarter fees and payment processing fees comes out of the total raised - if we include shipping in the kickstarter, we would have to add another 10% to the shipping or still come up short - even if we accurately predicted the rate increase for next year.
In order to more accurately calculate shipping, we have decided it is better to wait until the time we are ready to ship and collect that separately.
**A note on international shipping
This is one of the most frustrating parts about being a small group printing in the United States! We wish there was some way to ship these cheaper - but the cost of shipping is one thing we, unfortunately, have no control over. We have kept the shipping prices as low as we could, and in some cases, we are paying more for shipping even than what we are charging.
In order to use any international fulfillment or discount shipping, we’d have to be ordering and shipping much higher quantities of books, but for now, the international shipping is as low as we could make it! We hope you understand!
International backers, please note that you are responsible for any international customs fees and we are required to mark your rewards as merchandise. We cannot mark packages as anything other than merchandise for any reason. Thank you for understanding!
