Kelly’s story exemplifies everything that’s wrong with surrogacy. She loved being pregnant and helping others, but as a surrogate mother, #BigFertility lied to her, lied about her, used her, exploited her, and nearly ruined her financially.
In the end, she barely escaped with her life.
Kelly went with us to New York to speak at our “Trading on the Female Body” event and at the United Nations as part of the 61st Commission on the Status of Women. She even went with us to Madrid, Spain, where she spoke to numerous media outlets, to a large crowd attending a screening of our film Breeders: A Subclass of Women?, and to members of every faction in the Spanish Parliament.
We want for even more people to hear her story, so we are making a full documentary on her.
We are working with an incredibly talented editor, and together we’re in the midst of cutting the film, honing the story, adding in b-roll, and all the other technical details that will make our film the very best it can be.
Then, in the Fall, we'll launch it out into the world. We need to market the film, put it up on all our usual distribution platforms, and do premiere screenings, especially in places where surrogacy-related legislation is under discussion.
We cannot do this without you!
Take a look at the rewards or give simply because this is for a good cause. Please help us finish Kelly’s story and share it with the world.
Risks and challenges
This is our fifth feature-length film, and eighth film overall. There are always challenges in filmmaking, but as an experienced and award-winning filmmaking team, we are adept at overcoming them and pressing ahead to final release and wide distribution of the film.
Not only have our films won awards like Best Documentary at the California Independent Film Festival, our films have screened and sold all over the world. They have been translated into Spanish, French, Italian, and Japanese.
We have the knowledge and experience to do it again, but we need your help with the resources.
