Much of the pain that marketers experience on a day-to-day basis is from the incredible growth driving the digital landscape. In-house marketing departments and marketing agencies have higher expectations, with smaller budgets; so there are growing needs to partner with new digital marketing partners. One of the biggest challenges that companies have when hiring a third party/new digital marketing partner, is determining the expertise of the vendor. Basically, how can you tell if your vendor actually knows how to walk the walk and not just talk the talk?
VendScore is a new B2B review site for digital marketers that offers transparency and accountability through real reviews that help find and match clients with qualified vendors that share the same values and working styles. VendScore aims to make business relationships easier.
How it works: VendScore provides an easy four-step process that lets users find, and compare a variety of vendors and clients, with the specific needs that they are looking for.

Why it works: Peer reviews and referrals drive business decisions- period. A recent eMarketer survey found that 95% of B2B decision makers trust their peers and colleagues when researching purchasing decisions—yet there is no current review site that aggregates peer reviews around business partners. You can find reviews on local businesses, very specific niche markets- but there are no easy tools for digital marketers. One of the biggest complaints/concerns that people have around review sites are that they are very vendor driven and can be easily manipulated. VendScore helps prevent that by utilizing LinkedIn’s API and by allowing both vendors and clients to write reviews. This allows VendScore to provide qualified anonymous reviews. VendScore also lets users review vendors AND clients. So users get a more accurate picture.
We're in the process of gearing up for our beta launch, and once we launch-we want to be able to keep the site live. Beta launches are important for websites, so we can gather feedback from our users and make edits to make our site better. We need the financials from this campaign to help us pay for the hosting costs in a live environment with actual users and also to help us make the changes to our site that we're hoping our beta class will provide us.
VendScore is comprised of a select group of rogue marketers who build and market websites for large, global corporations. We're looking to clean up the digital landscape by utilizing our technical savviness and our over 45+ years of expertise. This is something that we’ve been working on, on the side, outside of work hours and outside of work resources for a couple of years. We are very passionate about this as we see a large opportunity to make a difference.
We would also like to thank our friends and families, and the team who made our amazing video possible. The pre-launch video was executive produced by VendScore and features: Rachael O’Brien, Matt Saunders, Matthew Paine, and Vivienne Tran. Robin Humbert Co-Executive Produced with Adam Garnaas and Marla Guloien (with GlamRockStudios) as producers. Zach Groll was the director of photography, Marc Schmidt composed the music and Casey Roth the editor.
Risks and challenges
We’ll do our best to deliver VendScore as promised, and our project has a number of risks that include:
1) Insufficient capital due to unknown expenses. To mitigate this item, we’re personally committing to infusing some additional $$ into VendScore this year. We will also seek outside funding to help us meet our deliverables.
2) Delays. Our product lives on the Internet. The wonderful, worldwide web, where cats can fly on rainbows, and where the Internet can be broken by a big butt. Butts happen people. There is no guarantee that our site will not fall victim to some danger on the Internet. What we can guarantee is that we will do our best to ensure that every safety precaution will be in place to avoid any funny business from the Internet.
3) Changes to product final design and offerings. If you’re familiar with startups, you’ll know the principles of “pivoting” and “iterating.” We plan on optimizing our site and pivot and iterate when needed. As we build our community (with your help) we’ll be able to build out our offerings and make VendScore into the robust solution it has always dreamed of.
